Insights for Using Generative AI
Numerous thought leaders have emphasized that the economic benefits of harnessing Generative AI could reach billions of dollars or more. ?Large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT can generate answers to a wide range of questions, yet they operate like black boxes that lack transparency and produce outcomes that are difficult to explain. This ambiguity creates mixed feelings of curiosity, amusement, and apprehension.
A common theme I’ve seen in reading various articles and listening to numerous talks and podcasts is the necessity for human oversight. One helpful analogy likens AI to an intern – it can perform numerous tasks but requires clear instructions and consistent supervision. To help our people better understand how these tools can be leveraged, Data Citizens with Purpose? (DCwP) launched an experience to familiarize KPMG professionals with ethical guidelines for using AI-generated insights. Professionals were organized into teams and provided access to Generative AI tools for public data exploration along with the firm’s ethical framework. This safe environment encouraged participants to actively engage with, iterate, and develop solutions and implement ethical practices while working with ever evolving technologies.
Being proactive in demonstrating responsible and efficient utilization of Generative AI tools is essential for realizing their full potential and ensuring the benefits of such tools are accessible to everyone. As we collectively move forward, it is crucial to ensure organizations are well-equipped to derive accurate, reliable, and ethical outcomes when using Generative AI.
