WHY ARE BUSINESSES LOOKING TO ADOPT XR MORE AND MORE?

We see it everywhere, every day on the news there seems to be a?big?organisation?that announces their XR or immersive strategy.?This tells us corporations and bigger names are not afraid of XR,?instead they are actively?using it and?integrating into a bigger business strategy. The reasons are?varied?and can’t be simplified into “XR is the future” (although you can?read?people online saying this all the time).?In some ways, XR is the future, but not the visionary future most are trying to enforce. XR has substantial applications?in?the real world. It can bring positive change?to?the workplace in productivity, satisfaction and safety.?

We wrote all about it, including a quick analysis of current and new uses of XR outside of training, in the following article:

We also created some infographics to simplify a couple of essential topics around productivity based on this article. Throughout March, we'll be delivering guides like this one, so stay tuned!

UNDERSTANDING UI VS. UX WITH... MEMES?

If you've worked in the tech/software space, you've probably heard the terms UX and UI. These terms refer to User Experience and User Interface, respectively. They work together but fulfill fundamentally different needs.

Together, UX and UI can produce a high-quality, visually appealing, easy-to-follow experience in XR, for example.

Those unfamiliar with the two may find it challenging to distinguish between them. We found the perfect meme this week on LinkedIn that may shed some light on the issue:

UI is functional: it helps understanding the purpose of the product and gives the instructional knowledge needed to use the product (e.g. it has a label, a cap, it opens and can be used in its essentials). On the other hand, UX improves the experience of using the product and improves quality and awareness.

Following the analogy from the meme: we all know that the ketchup always gets stuck when you're almost done with it, so why not make a bottle that stands so that you can get every last drop? Ultimately, both bottles are perfectly fine, but only one considers all the needs, thoughts, paths and intentions of their user. This should be the aim of any product, including digital and immersive ones.

EVER HEARD OF STEREOSCOPIC IMAGES?

Stereoscopy?(also called?stereoscopics, or?stereo imaging) is a technique for creating or enhancing the?illusion of depth?in an image by means of?stereopsis?for?binocular vision.

This essentially means that by focusing on the stereostopic image and focusing on the "third" appearing one, you visually get a higher depth of the image itself. Some users experiencing these images even commented they felt like they could see these images "in 4K"!
