It is common to feel burned out at work. It can make you feel diminished, and challenges that were formerly manageable become insurmountable. The burned-out employee feels exhausted, cynical, and overwhelmed.
As per research, there are three dimensions of burnout: emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation, and reduced personal accomplishment. When emotionally exhausted, you feel emotionally, physically and cognitively used up. In depersonalization, there are feelings of alienation from and cynicism towards the people your job requires you to interact with. Burnout can make you lose belief in yourself, and so your capacity to perform is compromised.
Burnout doesn’t go away itself. So, taking the necessary steps to overcome it is the way out. Read the five steps to combat burnout, here.
