Insights for Labor Day 2021
As we celebrate Labor Day today and close out the summer, I’m sure I’m not the only one who had hoped we’d be beyond COVID-19 by now. This past summer was supposed to bring the return of normalcy and the onset of a post-COVID world. Instead, we got a huge fourth wave, thanks to the uninvited guest who just won’t leave, the Delta variant, the emerging Delta Mu, and the pandemic continues to put a damper on the American workforce as a whole.
But Labor Day is the perfect time to re-commit a noble purpose of to bringing about positive reform in the lives of workers in light of the continuing pandemic. So many people are still suffering, and it’s important not to lose sight of the fact that we all still have a lot of power to help. That help often times can be rooted in our purpose and in our jobs.
I am incredibly blessed to work with a team that has shown grace and resilience in the face of sometimes huge challenges. But the onus of meeting those challenges and allaying people’s suffering shouldn’t rest solely on having the good fortune to have an exceptional team or to work for a great company.
I would humbly ask that you consider the purpose of having empathy and work towards ensuring workers in need have the support and resources necessary to answer their physical health, mental health, and family-related challenges. When we consider food, accommodation, travel, and work, there’s a need for us to prioritize worker well-being. Let's figure out how we can focus our efforts to allay the impact of COVID on our workers and their families. May God bless you and your families on this Labor Day!
