Helping Leaders in Sport to Increase Influence, Decrease Friction & Lead Better
A slight change in format in this edition! Rather than having one stand-alone article you'll find some bite-size posts to give prompts towards changes and actions you can implement today in order to drive up your ability to access your capability. You can also access a recent appearance I made with Aditi JN on her new "Help Me Unlock" podcast....a really great conversation where we spoke about applying sports performance secrets to your professional world, making peak-performance your new norm and managing and making stress work for you.
Let's jump in.
Process vs. Outcome
Becoming a better performer & developing the ability to unlock & access?#peakperformance?is a process.
And a focus on process(es) over outcome(s) is rewarding. But why?
1. Helps minimise distractions
2. Facilitates gaining control over your day and reducing complexity
3. Brings an element of simplicity to your day(s) through co-ordinated actions
4. Can be easier to manage your time
5. A narrow field of focus improves concentration
6. You'll quickly gain clarity on what works well/adds value for you and what is not so rewarding.
7. You can identify progress more easily
Advice from 2000 years ago...
Sage advice from Epictetus c.2000 years ago......'If a person gave your body to any stranger he met on his way, you would certainly be angry. And do you feel no shame in handing over your own mind to be confused and mystified by anyone who happens to verbally attack you?'
Important implications that impact on your daily?#performance
1. Be more careful who you spend time with; are they an energiser or vampire?

2. Evaluate your online mindset - are you a learner mode or in confirmation bias mode?
3. Understand if habitual interactions are lifting you up or pulling you down
Question your assumptions
Peak performers are good at investing time into reflection.
Often we look at ‘how’ they reflect; but ‘what’ is at the heart of their reflection(s)?
Revaluation, rethinking and reconsideration make up the core of their reflective practice.
They assume only one thing - they can find a better way.
They know they are faring well, or even very well.
And yet they overcome cognitive biases telling them the status quo is adequate. Instead, they seek new approaches, methods and outlooks to drive them forward.
They leverage reflection time to explore; they question their assumptions

2 年Love this new format, Paul Clarke! Gave me a way to have a quick scan, pick up a few nuggets that stayed with me for a few days after and that I ended up talking to my team about in our Monday morning huddles. So excited that the podcast episode is out, too! Thanks for the shoutout ??
