Insights | Humanity’s Hegelian Golden Braid Speech

I hardly ever consume podcasts but am usually inspired by a really compelling recommendation which I received recently from Digby Scott...

He highlighted a recent speech (available as a podcast on most platforms) by Reid Hoffman on Humanity’s Hegelian Golden Braid which for me, is on a scale similar to Martin Luther King's 'I Have A Dream' speech, or Nelson Mandela's Long Walk to Freedom. It is at once a summary of the hopes and dreams attached to humanity's integration and leadership of AI AND a beautiful example of how to build an emotionally compelling and inspirational speech. Here are a few highlights that do not do it justice:

  1. I shall find a way, or make one (Hannibal)
  2. We are symbols and inhabit symbols (Perusian Griffin)
  3. Cathedral projects bring an ennoblement to our efforts and turn us into a fellowship
  4. We must take small risks to navigate big risks
  5. We are homotechnae; technology is what makes us human
  6. We have an obligation to make the future better than the now Dystopia is not the destination; neither is Utopia - find a BETTER place! Instead of worrying about what could possibly go wrong, imagine what could go right! Let AI help shape us - humans WITH AI, not instead of.
