Trade Wars: Price Hikes, Production Shifts, and New Opportunities

How can a trade war impact businesses and consumers?

Not right away—but if it lasts, prices will creep up. Businesses are already making moves behind the scenes, deciding whether to absorb costs, pass them on, or find workarounds.

It’s not just about tariffs. This kind of disruption forces industries to rethink everything—where they manufacture, who they partner with, and how they keep costs down.

Here’s what to watch:

?? Short-term squeeze: Prices on certain goods could rise, but timing depends on supply chains.

?? Long-term shifts: Companies may move production, diversify suppliers, or find tech-driven solutions.

?? Opportunities in change: New businesses and innovations always emerge when industries get shaken up.

One thing I shared live on the newsroom with Kim Brunhuber and Rosemary Church for consumers: If these tariffs hold, price increases will follow. A little extra cushion in the budget? Not a bad idea.

What are you seeing in your industry? Are businesses holding steady or making changes? Love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

Unpacking Leadership Lessons from NBA All-Star Weekend: Insights for Business Success

What leadership lessons can we learn from the world of sports, especially during exciting events like the National Basketball Association (NBA) All-Star weekend?

As basketball fans around the world revel in the excitement of the NBA All-Star weekend, I've continued to find inspiration in the unique synergy between sports and leadership. Reflecting on the time I spent at the NBA HQ last year has sparked thoughts on how the principles of the game can offer valuable insights for leadership in both business and life:

1?? The Power of Team Synergy: Just like an All-Star lineup, a successful team is a blend of complementary skills united under a common vision. Exceptional leaders nurture environments where individual talents combine to push boundaries and achieve remarkable outcomes.

2?? Embracing Creative Play: All-Star games are celebrated for their creativity and innovation, reminding us that leadership thrives on being imaginative. In today's fast-paced world, fresh, bold thinking is crucial for overcoming challenges and seizing new opportunities.

3?? Celebrating Unseen Efforts: While All-Stars enjoy the spotlight, it's often the unseen grit and determination during practice that pave the way for success. In leadership, recognizing and appreciating these critical moments is key to long-term growth and impact.

Whether on the court or in the boardroom, success is crafted one play at a time.

?? Adding to this, Stephen Curry 's accomplishment as the All-Star MVP exemplifies not only athletic excellence but also his exemplary leadership through community service. His dedication off the court serves as a powerful reminder of the broader impact a leader can make. Big shout out to him, Golden State Warriors, and The Bay!

Insights from the Chase Center: Leadership Needs to Be Action-Packed

During my visit to the Chase Center for the Invisalign Bay Area Women’s Classic, I witnessed from courtside the inspiring examples of women's leadership in action. The powerful parallels between women's sports and business leadership demonstrate that success is fueled by dynamic energy, a clear vision, and exceptional teamwork.

Inspiring leadership transcends making key decisions—it's about fostering an environment where every team member can shine, collaborate, and align with a shared vision. Here are two creative strategies to make your leadership action-packed:

1. Game-Day Huddles: Begin each day with a quick, invigorating team huddle. Use this time to set the day's focus, share a motivational story, or celebrate small wins. This approach sets a positive tone and fortifies team unity.
2. Visionary Playbook: Invite your team to contribute to a "Visionary Playbook." Encourage them to add creative solutions and innovative ideas. This not only taps into the team's collective intelligence but also fosters forward-thinking that breaks traditional molds.

????Now, I'd love to hear from you in the comments below: What are your tips for transforming individual strengths into collective success?

Who Will Shape the Future of AI?

I just wrapped up The New Code: Building a Tech Industry Where Everyone Thrives with Cristina Mancini, CEO of Black Girls Code—an insightful discussion on how AI is transforming industries and opening new doors for emerging leaders.

Key takeaways include:

?? AI isn’t replacing jobs—it’s transforming them. The greatest advantage will favor those skilled in developing and innovating with AI, not merely using it.

?? Critical thinking is a vital leadership attribute. In a world where AI produces answers, the ability to ask the right questions becomes increasingly crucial.

?? Innovation flourishes through diverse perspectives. The most significant AI solutions emerge from individuals with varied experiences and insights.

Cristina's powerful reminder resonates: Don't just ride the AI wave—create opportunities for more people to innovate, contribute, and grow within it.

The energy at the event was next level. Every seat filled, attendees standing along the sides eager to engage. The students' questions were exceptional, reflecting how deeply the next generation is considering AI's impact on their futures.

A heartfelt thank you to Cristina, BGC team, the students, CMC faculty and staff, CMS staff, and neighboring schools for coming and making this event truly meaningful. These conversations are vital, and I am grateful to be a part of them. A special shoutout to Heather Antecol, Nishant Dass,?and the team for their vision of putting this together!

?? Hosted at the Claremont McKenna College Athenaeum and co-sponsored by the Financial Economics Institute at CMC.

BTS - Sometimes, the best ideas come from spontaneous changes. In our recent studio session, we found ourselves in an unexpected whirlwind of creativity. Originally unplanned, we decided to relocate the entire setup—cameras, lighting, and all—to a different room. It was an impromptu decision, but the results surpassed our expectations.

This experience was a vivid reminder of how innovation thrives in unanticipated moments. We’re pushing the envelope with a new project centered on AI and the future of work, and I’m thrilled to see where this journey takes us.

Have you ever had a moment where an unexpected change led to a breakthrough? I’d love to hear your stories!

Stay tuned for more updates on our progress as we continue to reimagine workspaces with cutting-edge technology.

And yes it was a long day for all! ??

Hours before my talk at the Claremont McKenna College Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum, I captured a quick selfie. The room was silent—seats neatly arranged, tables waiting for discussion, ready to welcome a sold-out audience. In that stillness, I reflected on what it means to prepare for impact—not just for a talk but for leadership in life and business.

Here’s what that moment reminded me:

1?? The quiet creates clarity. Great moments of leadership often begin in solitude, when we have a chance to ground ourselves and connect to our purpose.

2?? It’s not about you—it’s about them. Standing in an empty room reminded me that leadership is about the people you serve, not the stage you stand on. Leaders should aim to provide value, not seek the spotlight.

3?? Preparation paves the way for connection. Whether you’re speaking to a room, leading a team, or pursuing a bold goal, your preparation beforehand ensures that others will connect with your vision.
