Insights from Building your employee self-esteem: How to get started.
Hello Squad!!
In this wonderful episode of The Critics, the guest panelists shared an amazing insight that organizational leaders possess the power to shape the work environment to create a nurturing space where self-assured individuals can flourish. By establishing an environment where individuals feel safe, respected, and valued, we open doors for enhanced self-esteem to take root.
From that perspective, one of our fantastic podcast listeners,?Marchello Arcelay, dropped an important nugget where they reminded leaders that hosting barbeque events is not a strategy for creating and encouraging trust in a team.
To boost self-esteem, leaders need to recognize and appreciate individual accomplishments constantly. Whether it's a small milestone or a significant achievement, acknowledging the efforts and successes of your team members goes a long way in boosting their self-esteem.
Share accomplishments publicly through company-wide emails, team meetings, or a dedicated recognition platform.?Pranay Parikh, M.D.?suggested utilizing love languages to determine what makes different individuals feel appreciated in the workplace.
From this CAARMO graph, the area in blue is where Gregory is most effective, and the area in grey needs improvement. From this data, we can tell that Gregory requires to routinely conduct employee experience surveys, which means he needs to seek and receive feedback.
In the episode,?Brent James?shared that feedback is a powerful strategy to encourage employee self-esteem, as feedback is crucial for growth and development. He highly recommends actively listening to employees across all branches and locations and gathering their ideas and insights. This invaluable feedback has sparked countless improvements and revealed the importance of transparency and understanding at?Rollins, Inc.
On that note, the way feedback is delivered can significantly impact self-esteem. Offer constructive feedback that focuses on improvement rather than dwelling on mistakes. Utilize data to be specific when highlighting strengths and areas for enhancement. While giving and receiving feedback, it is also crucial to remember that feedback is about guiding people toward success, not tearing them down.
Vinay Raman?shared another CAARMO empathy graph. Alexander's graph noted that team leaders must encourage skill development by empowering their team and providing professional growth opportunities. Support their pursuit of new skills, whether it's through workshops, training programs, or mentorship initiatives. Investing in their development demonstrates your belief in their abilities and contributes to their self-esteem.
Cultivating a workplace culture that promotes positivity, collaboration, and open communication is also essential, as it encourages team members to support and uplift one another.?
The final empathy graph shared by?Vinay Raman?in this episode was Jerry's. From the empathy graph, leveraging data-driven insights and taking action on them was encouraged.?Dan Beard?also shared an invaluable nugget of wisdom: He urged team leaders to understand, empower, and hold their team accountable for success by leveraging data-driven actions and embracing autonomy to foster a culture of achievement and improved self-esteem.
Understanding what drives employees, their strengths, and their interests significantly impacts employee self-esteem. It demonstrates that you are interested in their capabilities and believe in their potential. Be sure to provide the necessary resources and support to help them succeed.

Encourage a healthy work-life balance by promoting flexible working hours, vacation time, and daily breaks. When employees have time for personal pursuits and self-care, they can bring their best selves to work, fostering a positive mindset and higher self-esteem.
Last but not least, the best strategy of all for leaders is leading by example. Demonstrate self-confidence, humility, and authenticity. Show vulnerability when appropriate and acknowledge your own mistakes. This authenticity creates a culture where employees feel comfortable embracing their imperfections and building self-esteem.
In conclusion, building employee self-esteem is an ongoing process that requires consistency and commitment. Investing in your team's well-being and encouraging humble confidence creates a supportive work environment and nurtures a stronger, more productive, and more engaged workforce.
