An Insightful Dive into PPE Practices: A LinkedIn Poll Analysis

Over the past several weeks, a series of LinkedIn polls were conducted to gauge various facets of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) utilisation in the modern workplace. With a promise to return with a comprehensive analysis, here are the findings based on our detailed study.

1. Top Survey Questions

Seven pertinent questions were posed, targeting various aspects of PPE usage, ranging from leadership roles in advocating PPE, accessibility of the equipment, innovations in the industry, comfort, disposal methods, training frequency, and fitting methods.

2. Determining Sample Size

Across these seven polls, a total of 101 votes were received, with individual polls ranging from 6 to 32 respondents.

3. Cross Tabulation of Results

Using cross-tabulation, we were able to discern patterns and correlations between different responses. For instance, organisations with a strong safety culture (those indicating 'very proactive' leadership) tend to rate their PPE as 'very comfortable'.

4. Benchmarking, Trending, and Comparative Data

While our sample size is limited, it's evident that centralised PPE storage is the prevalent method of accessibility. Also, while many workplaces offer PPE that is comfortable, there seems to be a lacuna in regular training and a set disposal policy.

5. Crunching the Numbers

Leadership Endorsement: 55% deem their leaders 'very proactive' in promoting PPE use.

PPE Accessibility: A substantial 60% utilise a centralised PPE storage system.

Innovation: A majority (50%) have no immediate plans for using smart or connected PPE.

Comfort: A reassuring 64% find their PPE 'very comfortable'.

Disposal: 31% lack a dedicated disposal policy, equalling those using general waste bins.

Training: 35% report training only during onboarding, while 24% receive no PPE training.

Fitting: A whopping 71% provide multiple sizes to ensure a good fit.

6. Drawing Conclusions

Leadership: The majority of workplaces understand the importance of leadership in setting a safety precedent.

Accessibility: Centralised storage reigns supreme, though personal PPE kits are underutilised.

Innovation: The PPE industry is on the brink of a tech revolution, but most organisations are yet to adopt it.

Comfort vs. Safety: Comfort doesn't seem to be compromised in most workplaces.

Disposal: Disposal practices remain a concern, with a significant number lacking a dedicated method.

Training: There's a notable gap in regular PPE training post-onboarding.

Fit: Most organisations understand the importance of the right fit, offering various size options.

In summation, while there are areas of excellence in PPE practices, there remain facets needing urgent attention, particularly in regular training and a cohesive disposal strategy.

Thank you to all participants for shedding light on these practices. As the conversation around PPE continues, it's evident that regular feedback and analysis are paramount to ensuring the best practices are widespread.
