An insight into FCCU's Job Fair 2022

On the 29th of March 2022, a job fair was held at Forman Christian College (A chartered university) organized by the Career Services and Internships Office. Around 100 companies were a part of it, offering internships and job opportunities to the students of FC College.

The overall experience was great and very informative. I got the chance to interact with the representatives of some very competent companies. All of them answered my queries in a polite and informative manner. They guided me about the process of recruitment and selection for fresh graduates and students like me who are to graduate next year. My instructor Ma'am Faiza Tasneem guided and encouraged me to grab this opportunity. It was a great learning experience for me as I got to explore the job market and how different companies have different criteria for selection.

Out of 100 companies, I was able to shortlist around 15 companies to visit, and eventually managed to have a thorough meeting with 5 companies. Before meeting them, I did some research on them and visited their websites in order to prepare myself for the interaction. Following are the names of those companies:

Nishat Chunian Group

From my experience at the job fair, I have learnt that it is very crucial to learn the skills of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. At entry level jobs and internships, the task of data entry is given for which Excel is used. Secondly, good communication skills and the ability to solve problems is very important for selection in any company. The candidate should be able to handle pressure in tough situations. Also, they should be good listeners. A good LinkedIn profile plays an important role in the selection of candidates as all companies use LinkedIn for hiring employees. The candidates can also apply for the jobs by emailing their CVs to the companies. Candidates (students/fresh graduates) are assessed on the basis of their skills and how well they perform in their interview. The above mentioned companies do not carry out any games or tests for the selection of employees at entry level. Fresh graduates are mostly given the position of assistant managers. Students are given internships in different departments. For example, currently Jubilee is offering internship in the sales department, and Nishat Chunian Group is offering internship in the marketing department.

I will be joining one of these prestigious companies for the summer internship this year. And I am looking forward to attend next year's job fair with the intention of securing myself a job in a very good company. Lastly, I would like to express my gratitude to Ma'am Faiza who gave me the confidence and encouragement to interact with these professionals.
