4 common mistakes to avoid in your press release
81% of journalists rely on press releases to source their news stories. With such a heavy reliance on a single medium, it's important to understand what to avoid when crafting an impactful press release.
Medianet's in-house editorial team reads hundreds of press releases each week and even pitches almost half of them directly to journalists, hearing and responding to their feedback.
In this article we share the top 4 mistakes that journalists talk about when it comes to your press release.
Media coverage of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games
With the Olympic Games now well underway, we wanted to see what the media was reporting on and how it would change over the course of the Games. From this, we hand-picked what we believe to be one of the biggest insights from the media - the representation of female athletes.
From our team:

"Female athletes were more highly represented among the list of athletes, and female sport comprised 61% of sport-related coverage compared with 39% coverage on men’s sports which begs the question - did we have no male gold medal prospects? Or have the Tillies truly moved the marker on gender-equality in sports reporting? "
We also looked at what was being covered outside of the typical sports coverage and here's what we found:
"Nine journalists' industrial action on Opening Ceremony day was also a prominent theme, predictably catching the attention of News Corp scribes. There was the usual scrutiny of the Olympic Village - the general consensus being that the beds are no good, and the food isn’t great either - and security of athletes traversing around Paris ahead of the Games."
Keep an eye on your inbox for our second media snapshot of the Olympic Games coming in the next couple of weeks.
