Meta Unveils Quest 3 VR Headset, As Apple Readies a Rival?

Today, Meta introduced the latest version of its virtual and mixed reality headset, Quest 3, days before Apple debuting a rival version.?

Priced starting at $500, the Meta Quest 3 will launch globally in the fall and features “higher resolution, stronger performance … and a (40%) slimmer, more comfortable form factor,” according to a company blog post.?

It boasts 128GB of storage, with an option to add more. The headset uses the Snapdragon chipset it co-developed with Qualcomm, which Meta said offers more than double the graphical performance in Quest 2. That means it will offer a smoother experience with crisper details in immersive games, according to the company.?

Apple’s productivity-focused device boasts a custom micro?OLED display and is expected to retail for around $3,500 early next year.?

Meet Caryn, Your Generative AI Girlfriend?

AI startup Forever Voices AI has developed a “virtual girlfriend” called CarynAI, an AI clone of social media influencer Caryn Marjorie.?

Marjorie has nearly two million followers on Snapchat where she posts videos and photos of herself throughout the day. The 23-year-old’s fans are 98% male and bombard her with requests and messages. Marjorie created a Telegram group where her superfans pay to join and she spends five hours a day interacting with them.?

To reach more fans, she worked with Forever Voices to create an AI clone of herself that can talk via 2-way audio with each fan.?

Nvidia CEO: Two Computing Trends Are Emerging At Once?

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said the CPU-dominated computing era is ending and two new trends are rising simultaneously: Accelerated computing and generative AI.?

He believes each data center will transition from CPU-based infrastructure for general purpose computing to GPU-based accelerated computing to handle the heavy workload of generative AI capabilities for specific domains. He credits this shift to a “new way of doing software” that is deep learning.?

“This is really one of the first major times in history a new computing model has been developed and created,” said the chipmaker’s CEO at the recent Computex conference in Taiwan.?
