As consumers and leaders in the health space, it is no longer enough to be just ‘in the know.’ Our information, education, and marketing needs to be thorough. I invite you to go behind the scenes with Jenny Yu, MD FACS , Healthline Media’s Chief Health Officer. She leads our Medical Affairs Team which works to uphold medical integrity in all our content, products, and services. Let’s dive in!


Q: How does data influence your strategic decisions for the Medical Affairs Team?

A: As a consumer-focused health company, data and consumer insights are our means to understand the changing needs of our consumers, and must be the center of all decisions and strategies. Without that, we are not solving the right problems that are the true needs of our consumers.

Q: How do health industry trends shape your work at Healthline??

A: I am a health consumer myself. Besides digging into scientific research to understand new evidence, I am also curious about the emerging trends in wellness that suggest unmet needs and opportunities to bring forward our approach.?

A few interesting trends I’m seeing lately include:?

  • How GLP-1s?have shifted conversations across the board, for consumers, pharma, and wellness brands
  • How healthcare professionals are using social media in creative ways to bring credible information to unexpected channels

Q: What do you find is the key to building trust with health audiences?

A: Education builds trust. It creates those “aha” moments for people looking for answers, and when done right, can be a powerful resource for people, including healthcare professionals who want to better align with their patients.?We want to serve audiences in a positive way, and education, transparency, and simplicity are core to that mission.

Q: How do you measure the impact of your work with the Medical Affairs Team?

A: I was fortunate enough to be in a surgical field where I saw immediate and long-term positive outcomes for my patients — but outside of that face-to-face interaction, I knew that many people found it difficult to navigate healthcare.?

I pivoted in my career because I wanted to have a wider impact. Now I help ensure that the products and services we create are solving the right problems in a user's health journey. Our credibility, growth, and engagement with consumers are how we measure success.?

Q: How do you go above and beyond for the audiences you serve??

A: I lead with this thought daily: "What good can I do today?"? In the health space, there are many opportunities to help consumers navigate complexity and bring quality and integrity to the forefront.?It is crucial to have the discipline to balance the aspirational and the necessary in order to iterate and innovate.
