InsideOutsourcing issue #5
PP Control & Automation
World-leaders in strategic outsourcing solutions for machine builders.
When your uppermost pledge is to make outsourcing easy, there are several considerations that need consistent delivery.
They include a commitment to nurturing the best talent, collaborating inventively with technical partners, and communicating the key benefits created from an outsourcing strategy.
As we reflect on the month just past, those three things seem to be behind the most engaged with content, therefore, that’s where we’ll start with the ‘Top PPicks’ for the month.
Top PPicks for October 2022
Enjoy three key stories from October, followed by an exciting opportunity to join more than 200 people at PP Control & Automation’s manufacturing facility in the West Midlands and become the next champion of our inclusive mission.
1) Gen-Zeal: The eager desire of a new generation of engineers
A healthy culture thrives on an engaged workforce, and one comfortable to voice opinions. Opinions matter. Opinions from all walks of working life will bring about positive change and improvement. But how often do we see the opinions and ideas of industry’s younger generations rise to the surface?
James Sutor, Marcus Wesson, and Sophie Young; three budding engineers at different stages of their careers with PP C&A recently took part in a questionnaire designed to draw out their personal points of view on experiences to date, and the future of the business. But not all questions were as serious as that – some were simply just for fun – offering up scenarios that put them on the spot and make for more entertaining responses.
From where to invest large sums of money, to which markets offer up the most lucrative opportunities, we’ve put these young engineers to the test, and had some fun along the way.
2) PP+ acts as single access to every engineering design discipline imaginable
The PP+ outsourcing model gives access to several ‘Growth Module Partners’ that sit within the realms of industrial design and offer a luxury of different design disciplines.
Together, these disciplines can combine and support several requirements, from feasibility studies and design specifications to complex electronics design and design for improved manufacturability.
Throughout October, we shone a light on three key partners that best demonstrate the sheer depth of the design capability at your fingertips, when engaged with the PP+ initiative.
If you’re looking to outsource, scale-up and make your mark, this story is for you.
3) A fresh new way to communicate the benefits of outsourcing
A new interactive feature on the PP C&A website gives desktop users an interesting new way to navigate case studies and unearth the benefits of strategic outsourcing partnerships.
The first case study to benefit from the feature is available now. Play an online video and interact with hotpoints to learn more about the story behind the manufacturing partnership with Needham Group and the assembly of its N-Lase range of products.
For more case studies, you can use the Resource Centre to grab collected publications or individual customer case studies by freely adding them to a download basket.

The benefits of strategic outsourcing
Each month, we'll finish the newsletter with a focused benefit to a strategic outsourcing partnership and how the right provider can unlock your growth potential.
This month the focus is improving sales lead times and winning more orders.
Improving sales lead times & winning more orders
Sales growth potential is very rarely a constraint, and all manufacturing companies strive to increase sales to increase revenues and profit growth.
Increased sales means increased production accordingly. But maximum production capacity will occur and inevitably that means longer lead times. The potential risks include increasing customer dissatisfaction and losing out on orders.
A reduction of associated customer lead times is often the difference between an order being won or an order being lost. Improving those lead times will mean winning more orders. Your customers are no different than any others in their desire for quicker delivery and an outsourcing strategy will assist greatly.
It is important to ask yourself, which activities do you currently undertake that generate profit and which activities do you currently undertake that drain profit? By asking these questions, you will have a clearer understanding on what processes to outsource.
By picking an outsourcing partner and investing in what you do best, you will be delegating non-core processes such as part or full machine build and benefiting from their ability to supply at a higher level. This will reduce your production build times and ultimately improve the sales lead time to your customer.
