The sustainable movement seeks to combat the massive carbon footprint that fast fashion has generated by decreasing the environmental impact of fashion. This includes lowering the levels of air pollution, water pollution, and general #climatechange.
There are very few industries that are as strident in the promotion of their commitment to sustainability as the fashion industry. Merchandise as diverse as swimsuits and wedding dresses are advertised under the guise of being carbon-positive, #organic, or #vegan, yet at the same time, retail shelves are stocked with #yoga mats made from mushrooms and sneakers made from sugar cane. #recycling, #resale, #leasing, #reuse, and #repair are some of the new types of business models that are being marketed as "environmental life savers."
However, the unfortunate reality is that all of these experiments and purported "innovations" in the fashion industry over the past 25 years have failed to lessen its impact on the planet. This should serve as a jarring wake-up call for those who have faith that voluntary efforts can successfully address climate change and other significant challenges facing society.
Let's deep dive into the fashion segment and capture some innovations, news, and happenings around the world. I will try to gather more data and news on the segment but these are some of the interesting happenings.
