We spoke to propeller Pablo Martín to learn how his passion for business and design led him to propelland where he helps us find opportunities for impact as a Senior Strategist for our EMEA studio.

Tell us more about your career path. What led you to the design field?

My background is different from most designers. My relationship with design is more a relationship of admiration and continuous surprise rather than work experience.?

After six years of industrial engineering with a focus on mechanical and a fleeting internship at Siemens Gamesa as part of the quality team (designing a machine), I decided to change the course of my career and venture into the business field.?

I joined Deloitte in their Strategy and Operations department, where projects mainly focused on making the company more efficient from different areas (cost, revenues, and services). Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to work with several different companies in various sectors. That’s the beauty of the consulting world. Another positive about working in such diverse roles and job functions is it pushes me to develop a deeper understanding of how each department of the company works in detail.?

At propelland, I have found a good balance between my passion for design and business experience. Combining my interests is useful within the company and complements our thinker, maker, and hacker mindset. The type of projects we work on, the services we offer, and the products we bring to life here at propelland continuously fascinate me.


Do you have any favorite projects you've worked on??

Our team has been working on several projects in recent months that have had a high impact on the daily lives of employees and society as a whole. For example, one of our clients is a company dedicated to recycling and they want to increase the amount of recycled waste in the coming years. The team has been obsessed with thinking of disruptive ways to achieve this goal, and we’re on track to achieve it.?

On the other hand, in helping a first-level company transform the P2P process and our support for the understanding and adaptation of its users.

The truth is that propelland is a company that applies a high level of creativity and disruption to great projects. This is something that is rarely found in other companies, and I believe this is the value that we must make clear to our clients.


What are your main responsibilities as a Senior Strategist at propelland?

As a Senior Design Strategist with a unique background and mix of business experience, my role primarily focuses on 2-3 functions.

On one hand, I contribute as an advisor to apply a business lens to interpret the solution (service/product) offered and translate it into financial language. I figure out what we are looking for in terms of impact.

On the other hand, I’m also responsible for the coordination and execution of the project, communicating with the client, carrying out the follow-up with them, and ensuring their expectations in terms of time and quality.

And as an additional point, as a consultant, I have a vision-oriented toward clients and industries. I detect opportunities to provide the client with an adequate solution, making propelland known in all its different areas and finding a suitable fit with the clients of interest. My ability to connect propelland with clients is also one of my daily occupations.

Therefore, my objective is to find the right balance between the different functions and to add value to the company.


What has you feeling most excited about the future for propelland and the entire industry?

I believe as a company, propelland is prepared for anything the future throws at us. Our team's talent is huge. Our aspirations are really high and we’re motivated to face any obstacles, whether it's learning new technology or adapting to situations that arise. It will take additional effort to fulfill them, but we are willing to get there. We will come out with stronger growth than we expect.

What motivates me the most is our goal to make propelland known to numerous companies operating in all kinds of fields. We can have the perfect fit by taking advantage of the paradigm shift and the need for companies to reinvent and invest in innovation in order to stay competitive. The evolution of the technological field, being able to adapt to it and take advantage of it as a distinctive tool to offer to customers will be one of the values that will strengthen us the most.?


What advice would you give to aspiring designers or people who want to get into the creative field?

There are several characteristics that I have found in the profiles of propellers that I have been able to explore. First, they are vocation and passion for what is done—curiosity to think differently and find solutions that would never come to your mind in a hunt. Lastly, being human and empathetic. I have come across a group of very united people who are different from each other.

To tie it all together, it's about being passionate with a clear vocation, always remaining curious, and empathizing with other people as a fellow human being without other pretensions.
