Inside Our Updated Registry: Part 1

Inside Our Updated Registry: Part 1

We believe transparency and accountability are key to building trust and driving impact. That's why we've made it a priority to have a public registry on our website, showcasing our clients' reforestation journey ?? This registry allows anyone to track the progress of our reforestation efforts that are updated every 2 weeks, providing a clear view of our commitments and the impact we're making together.

We're excited to announce that our public registry has been revamped with a more interactive interface and even more detailed metrics! You can explore these updates by visiting our website and selecting the company you're interested in to see their ongoing restoration journey.

Here’s how to visit the public registry from our website’s homepage!

Let’s go through the updated registry while we explain what each section means! ??

???Understanding our restoration metrics

CATUR Coffee’s Topline Restoration Metrics

At the top of our registry page, we highlight our Topline Restoration Metrics that shows the main data of our restoration efforts on numbers of trees planted, seedlings mortality rate, hectares of land restored, and tons of carbon removed. By clicking “See All Restoration Metrics” there are more metrics to explore — let’s get to know the terms! ??

  • seedlings mortality rate: The percentage of young plants that die before reaching maturity in our nursery.
  • carbon sequestration: The storage of removed or captured carbon emissions by the trees.
  • avoided emission: The prevention of greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions expected to be generated from deforestation practices e.g. land conversion and slash-and-burn activities in our reforestation site.
  • planted species: From the total of trees planted, we plant up to 40 different species of native plants to ensure a thriving symbiotic ecosystem.
  • detected wildlife: We observe signs of wildlife through manual observations and camera traps, and so far have encountered 19 species of wildlife around our restoration site!
  • # of people empowered: The work of restoration also means securing jobs and food for?at least a family of 4, and provide them with sustainable income.
  • # of processed legal land rights: Our program has facilitated legal land ownership status to 18 of our local partners, granting them security over their lands with Surat Kepemilikan Tanah (SKT) licenses. For CATUR Coffee Company 's restoration plot in the figure above, we facilitated 1 certification of legal land rights to the respective Community Keeper.

By diving into these metrics, you’re not just seeing numbers — you’re witnessing the positive change we’re driving together. Each metric tells a story of growth, restoration, and empowerment and we look forward to sharing more milestones with you as we continue this work ??

???Before-after documentation

Introducing our latest feature: swipeable before-and-after shots of our restoration plots! ?? With visible transformations now in full view, we're capturing progress through drone footage, mapped and analyzed using ArcGIS. By incorporating technology in our efforts, these tools help analyze and verify our work further with tangible results! ??

While the 'before' shots may appear to have greenery on the degraded land, they reveal invasive shrubs that outcompete native trees, disrupting the ecosystem. Each white grid marks a hectare where we plant a variety of species, leading to growths that are not uniform in height and sizes. We hope to see better growth and transformation in the coming years to come — stay tuned for more updates!

???Get to know who maintains your land!

Our reforestation efforts are made possible through the dedication of the local community that we refer to as Community Keepers. We rent these lands from them, providing monthly fees as well as trainings and tools to equip them in the restoration process.

To honor their efforts, we’d like to introduce you to the Community Keepers behind the transformation of your plots! Get to know their backgrounds and witness the impact of their hard work on your restoration plots.

That’s half of the page for now! We know, it’s a lot to take in with all these terms and information ?? we hope it provides you with valuable insights into our reforestation journey. We’ll be back to explain the rest of the page in next month’s newsletter — subscribe to be notified on updates!

We know we’re not perfect — we’re all still on the journey to make a better, greener future — so we highly value your feedback! We would love your help in improving our new registry further, so please let us know if you have any feedbacks or any comments. Thank you for your support thus far!
