Inside the New Iceotope HQ

We are pleased to announce that our new headquarters in Sheffield has officially opened.

On the opening day, we caught up with Tom Parker Director of Operations, and Neil Yule , Non-Executive Director, to discuss their thoughts on the new office and to find out some more information behind the design of Iceotope HQ.

Q: How do you think the opening of the new office has gone today?

TP: “It has been brilliant. It is nice to have lots of visitors and lots of investors coming down, old friends and colleagues coming to see the space for the first time.”

Q: How did you come up with the new design of the new office?

TP: “I came to the design company that we used with a quite strong idea already about the layout of the office. We knew how many people we needed to accommodate and the theme of the office style, I was quite clear from the start, so we came with a detailed brief and we took it from there.”

Q: Perfect and what have been the main reasons for the new office move?

TP: “So, we did the new office to accommodate the growth in the organisation with a round of new investment and we wanted the business to evolve in terms of its ability to deliver new projects, new capabilities and take on new customers.”

From Neil Yule’s perspective, founding the new office was a practical action as Iceotope continues to develop and grow as a successful company. Neil was asked if the new office would help Iceotope’s growth which he responded:

Q: Tell us a bit more information about the new office and why it has come about and where the idea came from?

NY: “It is a really interesting reflex point in the growth of the company because I joined about four years ago and it still felt like a small tech start-up company with a team of about twenty people. Over the last four years it is maturing into a more tangible business with real customers and revenues.

Last year we were able to attract a significant investment to the business and raised about 30 million pounds with certain investors coming from Singapore, the US and Germany. That helped demonstrate what a tangible difference that made to the team over a four-year period. It helped to fund to move the office out and has given us much more vibrant open space, akin to the type of business which we are, so we now look how we feel as an organisation.

The opportunity allows people to realise what they are a part of. Somehow downstairs when we were in our little fragmented offices, people were tucked away and did not get that buzz of the organisation around them, they were in little company holes.

Certainly, now it feels like a vibrant young organisation, I have done a lot of work with the likes of Google, Facebook and things in the past and been to their offices in California and it was a similar vibe to that to feel out the energy in the room.”

Q: So, do you think that this new office has helped towards Iceotope’s growth, transfer to the new employees?

NY: “Absolutely, the number of people it benefits in a number of areas, first from an Iceotope point of view the retention of staff and attracting new staff into the organisation is key. These bright young engineers that we are looking to recruit, they have options and choices around here with lots of high-tech local companies which they can go to. So, we can elevate ourselves and stand out from the crowd.

From a customer point of view when they come here, it is good to get that balance right as well. You do not want to have ridiculously lavish offices because customers think ‘you are spending all of our money on that thank you very much’, it’s not an appropriate use of funds, but you need to demonstrate that you are a serious organisation, we have quality running through us and we are looking to recruit more people. So, the customer perceptive is really important for us and works perfectly throughout the day.”
