Inside The Network

Inside The Network

I’ve sat here and typed this out over and over again. Not sure on how to word it, or what route to take. In the end I dwelled again on why I’m doing this in the first place. I have loved my first 8 months in the legal tech industry and the people I’ve had the pleasure of speaking to. With that, I just wanted to create something to share my journey being fresh out of university, and into this daunting professional world. Hopefully making for a good read in the meanwhile.

So, my name is Harrison and I’m a Londoner born and bred. Unbeknownst to my younger self who thought I’d be a lawyer, after studying Law for 3 years and attaining a first-class degree. I ended up at Jameson Legal in the tech division where I feel I’ve found my fit. I’m a people person and love listening to the many facts, stories, and bits of knowledge those in it long before me have to offer. Some of which I plan to include in these posts.

I’ll start today with how I took the next step in closing the educational chapter of my life. Then, stepped into this new unknown adventure, and I can assure you one that rifles through the thoughts of many graduates’ alike day and night.

It began when I finished my last exam. Relieved for some hours until the thought of “what next?” crossed my already hectic mind. It caused me a lot of worry having been hugely impacted by covid in , ??the prime of my education and feeling far behind the younger students who had already begun securing training contracts and attending events to network. Something I hadn’t the chance to do.

I thought let me start small. Let me start with Linkedin, connecting with people who might hold some answers to the questions I’d yet to consider. What do I want to do? Where do I want it to take me? ?How will I get there??A move I can say was very beneficial. I found that many people on Linkedin remember themselves in my exact position. They were often warm with their replies and eager to help in any way they could. Shortly realising from this helpful community of professionals that being a lawyer is an extensive journey, one that was maybe not for me at this time. There was however plenty more out there still within the legal industry to delve into.

My studies had included legal tech which had interested me enough to be my highest grading module. I had already connected with many and, come across the niche on LinkedIn. Doing this and without realising, it had already started to lead me down the path to where I am today.

I was contacted by a recruiter, shout out to Chris Mathieson . At first, I had this stigma that recruiters were like many salespeople I had met. In it for the money and only to benefit themselves. Chris however was kind, understanding, and best of all in my corner. He asked what I wanted and when I didn’t know he helped me over numerous calls to come to a conclusion.

Getting to work within a company where my day includes talking and networking with people, being part of a likeminded team who are close knit, and with mentors to help reach my potential. Chris got to what he does best, and in no time I had interviewed for many roles offering what I had asked.

Towards the end I had 3 offers on the table, and Chris could’ve left me to accept any and his job was done. But he had heard my enthusiasm in discussing the new legal tech division within Jameson Legal (1 of the 3 offers). He asked if I would rather join that team in lieu of what I interviewed for to which I said yes. The next morning, he broke the good news that he’d persuaded them to open a position just for me. So, thank you Chris, and all recruiters like him out there who truly do It for the satisfaction of helping others.

Now you’re all caught up. I have been here for 8 months and I would never have thought back in?May of 2022?I would be here. Enjoying myself as I work alongside some amazing people. Having the mentors, I sought and needed. Ultimately, because I wasn’t too scared to ask the questions I didn’t know, to people I didn’t know. Now hopefully I can give back too even if it’s just a little.
