Inside Innovation: Packaging Perspectives #24

Welcome to my latest LinkedIn newsletter. ??

This is my personal account of the world of packaging. ThePackHub continues to provide lots of news and views and a new LinkedIn weekly newsletter (make sure you're one of the 14K followers).

Packaging Innovation Watch ??

I focus on a particular LinkedIn post each week that gets the packaging network liking, sharing, and commenting.

Swiss startup no normal coffee has introduced an innovative coffee paste packaged in a recyclable aluminium tube, making it perfect for on-the-go use.

This unusual format for coffee is being promoted as ideal for outdoor adventurers like climbers and backpackers.

The paste can be dissolved in water, spread on food, or eaten directly from the tube.

To make a cup of coffee, you just need to dissolve two teaspoons of the paste in hot or cold water. Each 100g tube makes 15-25 cups of coffee, featuring a dark roast made from 100% Fairtrade-certified Colombian Arabica coffee. What do you think?

Open Day Learning Experience

I had an excellent time at Kelpi's open day recently at the impressive Science Creates incubator in central Bristol.

I think just about all of the 17-strong Kelpi team was there, and we were given the opportunity for a lab tour that explained the technology and the various developments taking place.

Kelpi is collaborating with global brands including Diageo, L'Oréal, Waitrose & Partners and DS Smith to develop a patented biomaterial technology to meet specific requirements.

It was good to catch up with Hugo Adams one of the three founders of Kelpi.

It was a pleasant surprise to bump into Bristol-based Jane Martin CEO at City to Sea at the event. They are behind World Refill Day, which is this Sunday 16th June. More information here: https://www.refill.org.uk/world-refill-day/

My thanks again to Megan Kelsall, Lou Hart-Spalding, Hugo Adams and the whole Kelpi team for their hospitality and openness. Expect to see several Kelpi applications in the market in the future.

I'm happy to share this short video of a new product development with BRUPAC DRINKS & MACHINE COMPANY LTD & Greiner Packaging UK. It's a liquid drink solution ideal for airlines, stadiums and festivals. There is no need for additional miniature bottles saving plastic and space. Contact Rachel Sheldon for more details.
