Inside Innovation: Packaging Perspectives #19

Welcome to my latest LinkedIn newsletter. ??

This is my personal account of the world of packaging. ThePackHub continues to provide lots of news and views and a new LinkedIn weekly newsletter (make sure you're one of the 13K followers ).

Packaging Innovation Watch

I focus on a particular LinkedIn post each week that gets the packaging network liking, sharing, and commenting.

We've tracked several label-less bottle initiatives in ThePackHub's Innovation Zone over the last couple of years. The likes of Danone and The Coca-Cola Company have already trialed a few formats across the beverage sector, mainly for water brands.

A potential lack of shelf impact and visible branding is a challenge, but this could work well when the bottles are part of a multipack.

Monchique Mineral Water Natura, the first Portuguese bottle without labels, has been launched onto the market. Made from recycled bottles, this packaging is 100% recycled and recyclable, with labels replaced by embossing.

According to the brand, this innovation will save 19 tons of virgin PET for every million Monchique Natura bottles produced.

The new 555 ml bottle is available for purchase from the brand’s online store in a six-pack box made from FSC-certified recycled cardboard.

In-Cosmetics Global

I recently visited In-Cosmetics Global in Paris. It made a nice change to focus on a specific product sector and see what is happening from a packaging perspective. Refill and reuse is a strong sustainable trend in this sector.

I had the pleasure to meet up with Zee W. CEO and founder from Algreen Ltd. Algreen pioneers renewable and sustainable solutions using biobased materials. They create alternatives to plastics and other fossil-based products, aiming to provide the most decarbonized and sustainable options to petroleum-based chemicals.

Thank you to Dr Barbara Olioso (the Green Chemist) for the opportunity to present about sustainable cosmetics packaging trends. It was also great to chat to several cosmetics experts about their packaging challenges during the session.

Free packaging webinar next week

Following their successful webinar ‘Plastic Reduction Packaging Innovations’, Stan Mitchell from Xampla and James Nelson from 2M Group of Companies are back to talk about their exciting new partnership and how natural coatings really don’t need to cost the earth. Book your place here.
