Inside India’s Biggest Generative AI Summit
“This is madness,” exclaimed a software engineer from a leading software service provider. “Applying even 1% of what I learnt here today could significantly improve the lives of my customers and team for the better,” he added, with a sense of newfound clarity, while he eagerly waited for Monday, ready to share all of the insights with his manager and colleagues, and putting ‘em into actions.
“We learnt a lot about how enterprises want to use generative AI,” said Gijung Kim , the founder of Seoul-based AI startup, Align AI , a next-generation product analytics tool for AI-native products. Many such stories resonated across the event, which included keynotes, tech talks, workshops and paper presentations, alongside mentoring sessions, hackathons, awards, expos, and much more.?
The sixth edition of MLDS , which spanned two days in Namma Bengaluru, was an excellent starting point for many to kick-start their journey in generative AI.
The event witnessed close to 50+ speakers and 1500+ developers attending the event – i.e. 1.5x more compared to last year.?
This year, it went beyond just bridging the gap between theory and practice – it was an unprecedented platform, offering leaders and practitioners in data science and AI an opportunity across industries to explore a variety of generative AI use cases, alongside new architectures, techniques, models, and open-source initiatives. Moreover, it facilitated engaging interactions with budding AI talent.?
Tech Whisperer founder Jaspreet Bindra’s keynote on generative AI and the road to singularity was a perfect start to the conference, touching upon the evolution of AI and the road towards AGI. Google Cloud’s Rajat Pandit session was also captivating where he spoke about the capabilities of Gemini , how it will change the enterprise landscape forever, and said it is the beginning of the “Gemini Era. ”?
CRED’s Atish Munje and Samiran Roy’s session on ‘developing generative AI agents’ was interesting, where they showcased multiple code applications and use cases where these agents can automate or augment workflows alongside human experts. BrainSightAI’s CTO Rimjhim Agarwal’s session on building ML-powered neurotech in healthcare was also truly fascinating, where she touched upon real-world applications in analysing brain scans, potentially leading to earlier diagnosis, better treatment and surgery options.?
Tamil Llama creator and Kaggle Master Abhinand Balchandran ’s session on adapting large language models for Indian languages, gave a fresh perspective into building LLM products for India, and how the open source community is growing stronger each passing day. Flowdrive’s Mankaran Singh session on self-driving cars and robotics, was also interesting, where he showcased the benefits of using end-to-end deep learning models.?
The workshop by EY GDS’s Anurag Mishra and Puneet Narang on ‘deploying LLM in production at scale’ gave a reality check for many in designing the e2e pipeline and mitigating approaches for each of the challenges, alongside throwing light on various testing frameworks to evaluate LLM application and best metrics for monitoring and maintenance of LLM applications.
Besides captivating tech talks, the paper presentation by Shubhradeep Nandi on enhancing taxpayer risk prediction through LLM-driven profile turning revealed how the Government of Andhra Pradesh is leveraging generative AI to detect tax fraud. Quadrant Technologies’ Siva Prasad Polepally and team revealed that they are working closely with local authorities in the narcotics department to build an LLM-powered assistant. The list goes on.?
The captivating talk by five-time World Chess Champion Vishwanathan Anand on Chess and AI was the icing on the cake. He spoke at length about the applications of AI in chess, highlighting how tools like ChatGPT can be used to curate training exercises and explain chess moves effectively .
