Crowdfunder raises 538% more than initial goal
Thank you so much to everyone who donated to our Aviva match-funded crowdfunder; together, we raised an incredible £16,158 to help people returning to the UK after serving a prison sentence abroad to gain financial independence and reintegrate into society. This is a £4,500 increase on the total raised from our previous crowdfunder appeal back in 2023!
Staff story: the purpose behind each number
Olivia (pictured, far right) is the most recent team member to write a piece for our 'Staff Stories' campaign. As part of our small but mighty finance department, Olivia's work means close collaboration with the service delivery and fundraising teams. For a small charity where every penny counts, this is vital to ensuring we can make the most every single donation and provide support where it is needed most.
Cared about as a human being
Andre's story featured in our recent Winter Appeal. Originally imprisoned for life in the USA, his sentence was unexpectedly commuted after 30 years. The joy at his impending release was overshadowed by his deportation back to the UK, a country he had not set foot in since 1977.

National and international protection of human rights
On Human Rights Day back in December, we joined the British Institute of Human Rights and 70 other organisations in signing a letter calling on on politicians to reaffirm the UK’s commitment to its human rights obligations, both nationally and internationally. Lord Ponsonby, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Justice with responsibility for human rights, responded on 7th January; read his?response here.
Lord Ponsonby stated: “the UK government is fully committed to the protection of human rights both domestically and internationally" and confirmed that "this Government will never withdraw from the European Convention on Human Rights.”
Prisoners Abroad translates human rights law into practical life-saving actions. To learn a bit more about our Human Rights Advisors, who are a key part of this mission, read a recent blog post about their work and trips to the UAE and USA.
Thank you for being a part of our vital work,
