‘Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.'

A quote I often use in my workshops/presentations and on my Pilbara Resumes website, attributed to Rita Mae Brown - not Albert Einstein.
But I digress!
Today I was told I am sacked - sacked from being a people pleaser, sacked from being the doormat, sacked from being the unappreciated cleaner/cook/fixer-upper/shopper/toilet-roll-changer... the list goes on!
And, believe it or not, this felt great.
It was a big wake-up call.
I hadn't realised I wasn't practising what I was preaching.
I am always telling people that if you want things to change, stop doing what you are doing because clearly it's not working.
As a business woman, mum and wife - it is really hard to balance everything and sometimes when you are burning the candle at both ends, something has to give!
It did - the house is a bloody mess and I can't be bothered cooking.
Why does the housework always end up reverting to being the 'wife/mum's job'?
I hadn't realised how stretched I was until asked the question: "What would happen if you stopped?"
Well, life would go on - they would eat and maybe even pick up after themselves. I hope!
BUT
They would definitely outlast me if we try to do the old 'standoff at the OK corral' so I was told...
"You're sacked".
And wow... it's liberating. I don't need to do it anymore. I've been given permission to stop for my own sanity.
Mind you, it's only been a couple of hours but I am finding it easier to get the work I love done - head down and in the office - not getting caught up on everything else that needs getting done around the house.
Tonight at dinner I will tell the family the sad news.
"I was fired today"
The consequences of this are two choices for them:
- They will have to step up and take over OR
- Someone will be hired to get the work done.
The first choice will result in them learning new skills and tools which will help them launch their own life choices and prepare them for the big wide world where mum isn't there to help all the time.
The second choice will cost them monetarily as it will cut down on treats as the money goes to pay for outsourcing but they will have my sanity and patience back.
Maybe it's time for you to be sacked - if you are struggling in your jobsearch; maybe not getting an interview; thinking that LinkedIn doesn't work; not sure where you are heading in your career but you know it isn't working.
SOMETHING HAS TO CHANGE.
Maybe it's time to quit or get the sack with how you are developing your career... and hand the reins over to someone else who can help you do it differently.
Maybe an expert, like me?!
Because, doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results... is not going to continue in my house... no more, it's done.... as I don't want to go insane!
Let's chat about what's going round and round in circles for you....
Why keep doing the same thing over and over with your resume, application tools or job search, if it's not getting you the job you want?
