Assessment

The owner of record is determined by who owned the property as of January 1st of the previous year. If property was purchased after January 1st of the previous year, you will need to have the former owner’s name and find out from the title company who is responsible for paying the taxes. For split properties, please contact the Auditor’s office and the Assessor’s Office to have a split sheet done before you pay the taxes. Mobile Homes are assessed and payable the same year and are due on the dates noted above.

Deductions

A deduction reduces the amount of property value that you are taxed on, which lowers your property tax bill. You might be eligible for a deduction if you are paying property tax on your main home or have a mortgage on your property. Learn about these and other common deductions here. You cannot receive the same deduction on more than one property and, with the exception of the mortgage deduction, the credit must be applied to your primary home. If you think you qualify for a deduction, contact the Auditor’s Office for more information.
