Hiya,
Happy Monday! Welcome to the third of four mini Career in Transition Masterclasses.
"The Ins and Outs of Creating a Side Hustle". In this video, I explore the four most common questions I get asked by those who are trying to figure out if a side hustle is for them, or when it's time to quit your job and focus on their side hustle full time.
- Should I start something on the side?
- How do I decide what my side hustle is?
- How do I know if my side hustle is working?
- When do I quit my job and work on my side hustle full time?

Once you've watched the video, here are three questions for reflection and ideas to support you to figure out if a side hustle is for you.
1. How many hours a week do you have to create your side hustle?
Do you have 5-10 hours a week to begin? If the answer is yes and you're feeling good physically and emotionally (this is more important than you realise) consider getting started.
2. What are the problems you'd love to solve with your side hustle?
Start by creating a long list and then a shortlist.
For example here was my shortlist when I started Fully Expressed as a side hustle in 2014:
- Help executive women transition their careers so they are confident to do work they love and make an impact
- Help them avoid burnout and be confident in their abilities
- Help them be smart around the financial implications of pivoting their career
How did I get to that shortlist?
From my own burnout experience, my unique skill set in business and my passion for supporting people to meet their potential. I also saw a market gap to specialise in these areas so it made sense to get started.
3. What type of lifestyle would you like your side hustle to set you up for?
If you want to be free as a bird and travel start a side hustle that facilitates that, or if you're a working parent and want to have the flexibility to pick your kids up from school, consider that in relation to the type of side hustle you choose.
If you start a side hustle, remember in the beginning you're simply learning the ropes of doing business and figuring out if you like it and gain meaning from it. Nothing more, nothing less, okay!
I'll be posting next Monday with the final Masterclass called "The Top Six Assets You Need to Become Your Own Smart Girl Boss".
Have a great week!
