Inquiry into Climate Adaptation: Our submission
Climate Change Commission
We drive Aotearoa's climate action. We give government impartial advice, and hold it to account. Here 9-5, Mon-Fri.
Parliament's Finance and Expenditure select committee is currently conducting a cross-party Inquiry into climate adaptation, with the aim of developing a climate adaptation framework for Aotearoa New Zealand.
In June 2024, we wrote to the select committee to share key preliminary findings from our first-ever progress report on the Government's National Adaptation Plan. We spoke to the select committee in July before the release of our full report, and again after our full report was released in August 2024.
Our written submission and video recordings of our presentations at committee hearings are available below, along with more information about our report.
The key finding of this report is that currently adaptation is not happening on the scale or at the pace that is needed. While progress is slower than set out in the first national adaptation plan, this parliamentary inquiry is an important step forward, and has the potential to enable and support good adaptation outcomes over the long term.
The findings of this inquiry are expected in September 2024, with potential legislation expected in 2025.
