Inquired, Part 2
Dear all,
?The BCO Conference 2024 in Hamburg was characterized by highly interesting presentations and podium discussions on current topics such as digitalization, market development and sustainability. To visualize and deepen the content presented there, we have launched the new series "Inquired at", in which our speakers will once again present their key messages and content in short interviews at weekly intervals.
This week we look back at the presentation by Nils Kahn, Managing Director MSC Germany, who gave us highly interesting insights into the MSC Group, both with regard to the current situation and future challenges.

In a difficult year with many challenges, the MSC Group performed well and was able to generate further growth. This is demonstrated by our key figures in the relevant categories, among other things. For example, we have now expanded our fleet to approximately 850 ships this year. We have also recorded significant growth in the volume of cargo transported.

In 2025, we will have to deal with five global trends that will have a direct impact on global Supply chains: Firstly, we must expect?real GDP growth?to slow down further, although a recession is unlikely. Secondly?geo-political developments?like the Red Sea, Ukraine and other events will continue to dominate and generate further uncertainty. The topics of?digitalization?and?emerging markets, which still offer high potential and opportunities for the future, will also be on the agenda in 2025. And we must continue to address the issue of?decarbonization. One focus here is likely to be on the development of alternative fuels, a topic that is also a priority for our company on its path to climate neutrality in 2050.

Like all other major shipping lines, we are routing our ships via the Cape of Good Hope until further notice. At the same time, we have interlinked our network even more efficiently to guarantee the reliability of our schedules and maintain the global flow of goods. This package of measures includes strengthening our terminal network (TiL) to ensure operational integrity on all continents, relieving terminal congestion via MEDLOG investments in intermodal services and increasing the use of MSC Air Cargo to meet the demand for time-critical and high-value products. In addition, we will continuously expand our fleet capacity and the vessel orderbook to be well prepared for all conceivable scenarios.

In an era of elevated risk and disruption, scale, operational freedom, flexibility and agility are key. Following this premise, MSC will offer an independent, competitive and complete network for East/West trades with 5 trades and a total of 34 loops from February 2025. We will provide complete coverage across all East/West routes by selected slot swap agreements. In addition, there will be optional weekly services via Suez with more than 1,900 direct port pairs or via the Cape of Good Hope with more than 1,800 direct port pairs.
