A conscious reference to another time in music.
To another rebellion.
To another disobedience.
It’s 1979 looking back at 1956 with a grin.
It’s Ray Lowry’s best satiric moment, with a lesson on the side:
Don’t just nod to the past.
Scare the shit out of it.
Tear it down, but with respect.
The punk soul of Joe Strummer carried an encyclopedic knowledge of rock ’n’ roll.
And so here comes the message to all those who distance themselves from traditional advertising.
To lacerate the old way of doing things, you need to know everything about the old way of doing things.
