INPS: 80% parental leave allowance for an additional month

INPS: 80% parental leave allowance for an additional month

In Circular No. 57, dated April 18, 2024, INPS provided operational and accounting instructions on parental leave for female and male employees, following the amendment of Article 34, paragraph 1, of Legislative Decree No. 151 of March 26, 2001, made by Article 1, paragraph 179, of Budget Law 2024. It is to be recalled that this amendment resulted in the increase from 30 percent to 60 percent of salary, of the parental leave allowance for an additional monthly payment to be taken within the sixth year of the child's life, or within six years of the child's entry into the family in the case of adoption or foster care. For 2024 only, the increase in parental leave allowance for the additional month is 80 percent of pay (instead of 60 percent). The additional month of leave is in addition to the monthly allowance, which, according to the Budget Law 2023, already provided for an allowance at 80% of pay. For 2024, there are, therefore, two months of parental leave compensated at 80%.

Parents who are employees and who end their compulsory maternity or paternity leave after December 31, 2023 are alternately eligible for the additional month of leave. For 2025, the amount of the second month will drop to 60%.
