inplaySoft's Guide to Lisbon during SBC

Welcome to SBC Summit Lisbon, but more importantly, welcome to Lisbon! As inplaySoft gears up for the exciting SBC Summit in this vibrant city, we’ve put together a quick guide to help you make the most of your time here. With some of our team based in Lisbon, we know all the local gems—from must-see sights to the best places to unwind after the event.

We know how it is when you land in a new city for an event, the instant feeling of anxiety that comes with having to manage a dozen things in a short span of time. Then you suddenly realize you didn’t have enough time to look into what Lisbon has to offer for you and your employees. Fear not! inplaySoft is here to give you a little guidance on that front. Let’s explore!

History, Sightseeing, and Pastries!

Portugal is a country with a rich history, and Lisbon is an obvious part of that as the capital city. With centuries of history, there’s a lot to see, but with limited time we will narrow it down a little to some of the must-see locations and maybe some sweet treats to top off the tour.

Parque das Na??es

SBC takes place right next to Parque das Na??es so this is an easy day one visit. The Expo 98 took place here, but now it is home to some amazing art and views. Considering this location’s proximity to the SBC event, it’s a no-brainer visit.

Belem Tower

The Belem Tower is from the 16th century and sits right on the water. It is a beautiful work of architecture and will transport you to a time from long ago. You can go inside and appreciate some art and some amazing views.

Jeronimos Monastery

The Jeronimos Monastery is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was built in 1495. Anyone who loves architecture is going to want to take some time to visit this location. With the site spanning centuries, you will be transported back in time and feel like you’ve stepped foot into a whole different world. You can also find the tomb of Vasco da Gama here.

St. Justa Elevator

This guide has an underlying theme of “beautiful views” but when it comes to Lisbon, it’s hard not to mention them. With the St.Justa Elevator we once again must tell you that the views from the top are immaculate. It was built in 1902, so it may not be for anyone with a fear of elevators or heights for that matter.

LX Factory

LX Factory is a whole little section of Lisbon for those who love modern art and creativity. You are going to find amazing little shops and art is splattered around the area, making it feel like a living, breathing work of art. There are quite a few cafes and bars in this area for you to enjoy as well. Go during the day or at night and the experience will be unique.

Pastel de Nata

Not a site seeing mission, but you cannot leave Lisbon without having a pastry called Pastel de Nata. It is a famous egg custard tart that will leave you wanting to grab a dozen to try to take some home with you. A perfect little treat after a day of exploring. While every nook and cranny in Lisbon will have this tasty treat available, if you want to go where the best ones are, get ready for a long line that is worth the wait. One of the most famous ones is Pasteis de Belem. It is reported that they have the original recipe for these pastries from the monks that were staying at Jeronimos Monastery. If you have time, make the trip.

Stepping Outside of Lisbon

If you have a couple of extra days in Lisbon outside of the allotted days of SBC, then you might want to consider exploring outside of Lisbon too. ?Portugal is a beautiful country with a lot to offer.

Sintra

If you want to step into a fairytale for a day, then consider taking a day trip to Sintra. Sintra is only a 40-minute trip by train from Lisbon. There you can walk through the enchanting Pena Palace and the wonderfully historic old town. You might also enjoy going to Quinta da Regaleira. It’s an old mansion whose main attraction is the garden. There you will find a beautiful well that is said to be the Knights Templar initiation well.

Obidos

About an hour North of Lisbon, you will find the town of Obidos. ?It is a magnificent medieval town with gorgeous houses and winding streets. Just another place to get transported back in time.

Porto

If you have a few extra days in Portugal, then you might consider heading North to the city of Porto. Another beautiful big city with a lot of heart. Here you can visit an iconic bookstore, walk through the city streets, or go Port wine tasting. You might even consider trying the famous Francesinha.

Food in Lisbon

In Lisbon you will be spoiled for choice when it comes to restaurants and food. Being an international hub means there are restaurants with food from all around the world. Whether you want to try some traditional Portuguese cuisine, or have some delicious Thai food, you will find it in Lisbon. There are restaurants on every street corner and there is something for everyone to try.
