Innovative Technologies Driving Decarbonization: A Look Ahead

What does technology mean to you? AI? Your brand new smartphone? Innovation and technology are compelling concepts, powerful enough to save our world from collapsing.

In an attempt to make our lives easier, we started turning fossil fuel into energy. However, alongside making lives easier for us in the last few years, it has also alarmingly affected the health of the environment. In this age and day, every third person is concerned regarding the environment whereas, every second person is concerned regarding living a comfortable lifestyle adorned with gadgets and machines. These two choices do not always go hand-in-hand but the year is 2024 and the minds are sharper.

These sharper minds have given birth to millions and millions of ideas that can help not just minimize the impact of burning fossil fuel but also try to nullify the damage caused in the last couple of years.

Decarbonization: The Strongest Solution

To understand how decarbonization can help, let us first break down the problem and its causes. Humans have been using the easiest source of fuels which are: coal, oil and natural gas. These fuels when burnt release carbon dioxide, particulate matter, and greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere. Greenhouse gasses get trapped in the earth’s air for a long time and also trap heat along with them. The amount of trapped heat in Earth has increased manifolds due to the overuse of fossil fuel turning the planet warmer by the day and giving rise to the most difficult demon to battle with- Global Warming!

Decarbonization in simple terms is the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions associated with energy production and consumption. It can be done by making a shift from using oil, coal, and natural gas for energy production to using renewable sources such as Biomass, CBG, CNG, solar energy, wind energy, hydro energy, and geothermal energy or by trapping these emissions well before it is released onto the environment.

Pollution Control System: Step towards Decarbonization

One of the critical roles of pollution control systems in decarbonization is that they decrease harmful emissions by capturing and filtering away the carbon dioxide (CO2), particulate matter, and nitrogen oxides released from industrial processes and energy production before they are emitted into the atmosphere.

Pollution control/ Emission Control systems reduce the carbon footprints of industries through increased energy efficiency, recycling of waste gasses, and cleaner technologies. This transformation in cleaning operations is aligned to reduce greenhouse gas emissions globally. It also brings industries closer to a low-carbon, more sustainable future while reducing the impacts of climate change.

Conclusion
