Innovative Solutions to Process Talc

Talc, a mineral composed of hydrated magnesium silicate, is the softest mineral on the Mohs hardness scale.

Its color ranges from white to gray, and includes some grayish-green forms, typically called soapstone. For many years, it has been used for stoves, sinks, electrical switchboards and more. Additionally, talc is used in the cosmetics industry as a lubricant, and as a filler in paper manufacturing. Talc is also used as a coating agent in rotogravure and offset papers, wherein it improves the runnability of offset papers, and the quality of finished papers.

The global talc market is projected to grow from an estimated USD 2.68 billion in 2018 to USD 3.35 billion by 2023, at a CAGR of 4.6% from 2018 to 2023. With so many applications, no wonder we are seeing so much market growth!

That's why NETZSCH developed technologies specifically for processing materials such as talc, including the Pamir High Efficiency Ultrafine Mill and Mistral Air Classifier for ultrafine products.

Compared to conventional Ball Mills, with the PAMIR mill it is possible to obtain extremely fine products combined with very high throughput capacities at low specific energy consumption levels. Used together with the Mistral Air Classifier in a grinding/classifying circuit, mineral fillers with a particle size of less than 2 μm can be produced.
