Innovative Preconstruction Foundation Pier System

Innovative Preconstruction Foundation Pier System

Advantages of the Drill-In Pier
Helical piers have many advantages and have long been a standard for underpinning and preconstruction piers. However, while a helical pier works well in stable soils, they are not the best option for clayey, plastic soils that exhibit shrink and swell characteristics. In these soil types, the ground will experience heaving and moving when the clay or plastic soils are wet or when dry. This heaving or soil movement can be catastrophic when the load of the structure is transferred to the helical piers that are seated in the unstable and problematic soils. The only long-term solution is to transfer the load of the structure through these challenging soils onto piers that are secured directly into the bedrock below.

TMG Pier Advantages
? Able to reach bedrock up to 300’.
? Upon reaching rock, hammered in.
? No torque limit.
? Schedule 80 structured steel threaded pipe.
? Galvanized.
? Every batch tested to insure engineering standards are met.
? Proprietary drill rig installation.
? Water jetted to insure maximum depth and verification that rock has been reached.
? Smooth sides reduce heave susceptibility.
? Highest load bearing capability.

Helical Disadvantages
? MUST be soil tested to determine load bearing strata.
? Helical “flights” can heave and settle with strata change.
? Depth is limited to torque.
? Cannot penetrate shale or other debris.
? Not water jetted.
? Cannot penetrate rock of any kind.
? Slow installation process.
? Higher cost per foot.
