Announcing the Herd of the Year Sweden for 2022
Investing in?healthy and high-yield cows?to achieve high production is the overall breeding strategy at?Salltorp Lantbruk, VikingGenetics’ Herd of the Year Sweden for 2022.
Their dedication to healthy cows, exceptional fertility, and innovative breeding have resulted in an outstanding production. Milking 230 VikingHolstein and VikingRed cows, their current yield stands at an impressive 13,400 kg ECM, and they aim to reach 14,000 kg in the future.
"We aim for high NTM, increasing by a couple of units each year and selecting a couple of areas we want to improve,” says Gun Karlsson, owner of Salltorp.
The Karlsson family are pioneers in cattle breeding and technologies. Cows have been flushed on the farm since the 1980s, and they have bred many great bulls that have been part of VikingGenetics’ breeding programmes.
Salltorp Lantbruk’s success lies in their accurate breeding strategy, genomic testing, and regular classification.
