Adobe abandons $20 billion acquisition of Figma. Following mounting pressure from regulators in the UK and EU, Adobe and Figma announced on Monday that both companies are mutually ending their merger agreement, which would have seen Adobe acquire the Figma product design platform for $20 billion. Because of the termination, Adobe is required to pay Figma a reverse termination fee of $1 billion in cash. In design teams across the world, there was much rejoicing.

Google agrees to an app store settlement. Google has agreed to pay $700 million and make several other concessions to settle allegations it had been stifling competition against its Android app store. The settlement with the states includes $630 million to compensate U.S. consumers funneled into a payment processing system that state attorneys general alleged drove up the prices for digital transactions within apps downloaded from the Play Store. Depending on what Google does with its commission structure from now on, you may have some price changes to consider for your app transactions.

New FCC rules mandate ‘one-to-one’ marketing consent. The Federal Communications Commission voted last week to adopt stricter rules on how so-called lead generators must get consent to reach consumers. The new rules mean that when you check a box to receive marketing communications from one company, you’ll hear only from them—not hundreds or even thousands of other entities they may be linked to through a marketing network. Time to think about your lead gen plans for 2024.

NASA streams cat video from deep, deep space.Using laser communication, NASA streamed a cat video from almost 20 million miles away, or 40 round-trip flights to the moon. The demonstration was part of NASA’s Deep Space Optical Communications experiment, aimed at improving the infrastructure for communication beyond the Earth’s orbit. And because why wouldn’t you want to find a valid work reason to watch cat videos?
