The article
There are two issues that underpin the fundamental business challenge of causing new solution adoption that are often unrecognized and, therefore, unaddressed.
One issue affects your ability to generate customer demand. The other issue affects your ability to provide new solution availability.
Each issue is a duality that innovators and organizations can struggle with.
- The first duality is the level of convergence between the customer’s and the organization’s problem frame. The closer to a matched problem frame you are, the more likely there will be demand for a new solution. Conversely, if you are working from an unmatched frame, the likelihood of your new solution generating demand is small.
- The second duality is the level of convergence within your organization concerning the problem to be solved and the solution chosen to solve it. The momentum needed to drive availability occurs when the organization is operating “on the same pageâ€. If the organization is “not on the same pageâ€, the internal friction generated will suppress availability.
The relationship between demand generating problem framing and momentum building organizational alignment usually plays out in one of four scenarios.
- the organization is not on the same page and the problem framing is not matched: “We are not ready to go anywhere.â€.
- the organization is on the same page but the problem framing is not matched: “We are all dressed up but no where to go.".
- The problem framing is matched but the organization is not on the same page: “We cannot get there from here.â€.
- The organization is on the same page and the problem framing is matched: “We are going to the dance!â€.
