A new pedestrian tunnel is being dug out under live tracks at Long Branch GO as part of our ongoing efforts to expand GO Transit across the region. In times past, this would have required shutting down those tracks for months, causing major disruptions for commuters. But engineering innovations like the Verona System keep you moving as construction continues.?

Union Station expansion?

Alongside expanding GO Transit, we’re also making key upgrades to the busiest transit station in the country. Hundreds of thousands of people pass through Toronto’s Union Station every day. It’s a critical hub for commuters, connecting them to GO Trains, GO Buses, the PATH, TTC and more.??

As the region continues to grow, better access to transit becomes increasingly vital. The work we’re doing at Union Station will bring more tracks, faster trains and more frequent service, just to name a few enhancements.??

Looking underground with LiDAR??

How does one dig a subway tunnel under a busy, populated city, without hitting sewer lines, building foundations, underground cabling and other buried treasures? It takes careful planning – and help from technology like LiDAR.?

LiDAR is stands for Light Detection and Ranging. Like the name suggests, it’s a system that uses light to measure distances and create a detailed 3D map of the surrounding environment its used in. It’s almost like a radar that uses a laser pulse instead
