Innovation

Innovation is most commonly used terms in Industry circle. Mostly people relate it to a product. Different minds have different understanding of term ‘Innovation’ and of course I am one of many minds.

The question is why anyone should really bother to know as to what is understood by other mind? I firmly believe ‘sharing’ enhances knowledge & ‘learning’ has no end / limits.

Simply put “Innovation is SOMETHING which adds value to human lives or all living beings”.

What is this SOMETHING – it can be a product, a process, a communication or any act that’s being done for the first time in reference to its subject – which adds value to human lives or all living beings.

Oh just now I thought of checking from “Google Baba” about the definition of Innovation and it says –

“The process of translating an idea or invention into a good or service that creates value or for which customers will pay.

To be called an innovation, an idea must be replicable at an economical cost and must satisfy a specific need. Innovation involves deliberate application of information, imagination and initiative in deriving greater or different values from resources, and includes all processes by which new ideas are generated and converted into useful products. In business, innovation often results when ideas are applied by the company in order to further satisfy the needs and expectations of the customers.”

To me Innovation can be done not only in a product or services BUT also in a process or in a communication or any act that we do in our daily way of life, be it food preparation, cooking, sharing ideas or any act. There are no certified people GOD has sent Or Universities have created, who are licensed to be Innovators. Any & each mind can be Innovative.

We quite commonly use a term ‘Jugad’. So can we call ‘Jugad’ an innovation? We commonly see & use this ‘Jugad’ every day. Observe mechanics, electricians & plumbers etc doing this in your very own homes. ‘Jugad’ is certainly not an innovation but it is just a bypass or temporary fixation of an issue.

Bringing a technology or a new Product or service or process etc, which exist somewhere already, but is new to your country, can’t be called an Innovation. It is replicating.

Pertinent question is Innovation for whom? The answer is for the ‘USER’.  So if a mind wants to innovate all has to be done is to keep ‘USER’ as protagonist, looking everything from USER’S perspective and not for profit or fame for brand. It would automatically flow in as a bi product.

So friends, Happy Innovating!

Very nice article. My definition is "Whatever makes life easier is innovation". Every innovation starts from "Jugad". Wright brothers made a Jugad for flying, which later created aviation industry.
