Innovation........
We all hope to be providing a learning experience that is of a high quality and benefits all the students that come across our path.
We all hope to be inventive and adaptable to the changes in our society reflected in the people we teach.
How many of us can claim to be innovative. How many of us a free to be innovative? I an environment that sees uniformity as continuity do we see templated approaches used more and more often, straying from serving the best interests of what is in front of us for formula and ease of repetition.
What is innovation? Why is it important?
For me the ability and necessity to be fluid in our curriculum design and implementation, from what is in our content, to the environments we use to the most important the year on year change of the students.
Embrace the change
For myself the realisation of the need for change came well before my ability or understanding of HOW to change. I saw curriculum design as a necessity for replication year on year. I was seeing drop offs in engagement and was not well equipped to stem the tide.
What changed? Recognition that I didn't know, recognition that was I producing an approach that may have marginalised rather than striven for inclusion?

Fast forward to my time in St Davids College. We are given the space and time to be innovative, that thing that sparks change, that thing that can strive to be all things to all people.
We have been lucky to have been recognised for our provision in PE thought the ISA and this time last year we received the innovation award for our curriculum design. A design that we feel is inclusive, supports the development of physical competencies (see MIchael Cacciatore recent post) and works hard on the world of skillfulness and transferability.
We have long talked about the "Continuous Curriculum" and we have now moved beyond the "physical realms" (we have not transcended) but we have created a Ks4 course to help support the needs of our students long term development in the PE sphere.
