Innovation Brew Works Partners With Cal Poly Pomona Alumnus to Create “School Rivalry”

In 2019, Justin Mazorlig entered and won first place in Innovation Brew Work’s (IBW) Third Annual Homebrew Competition. His winning beer, “Death of a Bachelor,” was brewed and served at IBW until it sold out. Justin realized his love for brewing and enrolled in the College Of Professional and Global Education’s Assistant Brewer Training Program, taught by IBW’s Brewery Operations Manager, Eric Bassett.

Justin successfully completed the program and decided to leave his 15-year career as an electrician to pursue brewing full-time. In the Fall of 2021, he opened Common Corner Brewing in Walnut, CA.

Today, IBW and Common Corners Brewing have a very friendly relationship. Justin washes his kegs weekly at IBW and also leases two fermenters that allow him to double his beer production.

School Rivalry is the first collaboration between the two breweries. The beer is a dry-hopped hefeweizen w/ mosaic & citra, a new style to Eric and Justin. It is currently sold at both IBW and Common Corners.

Justin credits the Assistant Brewer Training Program with giving him the education needed to open his own brewery. IBW is proud to partner with and support Common Corners Brewing.
