Innovating the Story Economy
Christopher Stapleton
Creative Executive Director, Strategist and Research Investigator
The story economy extends beyond Hollywood’s streaming movies and media. Stories impact and influence decisions across organizations, educational institutions, global markets, as well as our own individual experiences. Story is its own growth market that expands its power with each new media revolution. Story creation will drive the adoption of all future innovations and reframe our reality. How will future authors of stories reframe our lives with the emerging media of SocialXR?
The recent SocialXR book launch of Story Intelligence suggests that this radical innovation could be more disruptive to the Story Economy than the Gutenberg printing press. Online virtual worlds are providing new relationships between authors and audiences that have the power to reshape the narrative marketplace. Today, there is an explosive number of authors finding recognition in novel ways to give readers an opportunity to viscerally enter into their subject matter or fictional worlds. The printed page transforms into an experiential brand that gives immersive views to shift the paradigm of the audience’s understanding. The increased recognition of stories can play a pivotal role in advancing humanity and global enterprises where we need to “Master Story [to] Master Life.” This sums up the new book Story Intelligence, by authors Richard Stone and Scott Livengood who wanted to share their newest creation with contemporary generations who are growing accustomed to this new platform. Stone adds, “The powers of Story Intelligence (SQ) can empower new generations to reimagine and transform themselves, the future, and society.”
How could the authors’ company, StoryWork International, innovate these insights and go beyond the age-old print media of books? How will SocialXR be transformed to better empower the future generation of Virtual Natives—the offspring of the Digital Native? This was the quandary of the Co-CEOs of YOUTOPIAN Lisa Sibilia and Dr. DP Prakash. “Can experiential SQ courses encapsulate 30+ years of research in our NYOUGENE omnichannel platform to reimagine education and enterprise outcomes? The timeless foundations and wisdom of story explored in this book will be as relevant to the future as it has been to each media revolution going back to the invention of spoken and written language.”
Mr. Stone mentions, “This is not just a book launch, this is an innovation launch! This will spark future creative leaps in engaging audiences in mixed media experiences.” As the event’s Director, Christopher Stapleton of Simiosys describes the future of SocialXR “as the melting of boundaries between reality, virtuality, and imaginality, to enhance sociality. In producing the SocialXR book launch we had to converge all forms of media into one live, virtual and fictional simulation.” Mr. Stapleton adds, “As an Experience Architect, it was like designing for theme park, video game and live TV show all at once with 2D, 3D, Live, Animated and captured video. This was orchestrated with a multi-camera capture crew to provide a seamless transmedia program.”
SocialXR will allow new ways for authors to discover and engage audiences and to expand their creative brand within the Story Economy. “As with any radical innovation, this may disrupt book publishers and sellers, but it will liberate authors and audiences,” Mr. Stapleton explains. “Any economy is based upon supply and demand. In the Story Economy, authors are the supply and audiences are the demand. Whoever stimulates and mediates the supply chain, dominates the marketplace. Until now, stories have been forced through a linear supply chain designed to exploit short-term returns in limited dimensions. Now, we can explore far-ranging possibilities with SocialXR.” He predicts an innovation surge causing a creative media tsunami across all forms of the story experience. Richard Stone adds, “Our company StoryWork International is collaborating with YOUTOPIAN and Simiosys to initiate an innovation lab to discover the wide range of possibilities yet to be conceived.”
As a follow up to the remarkable response to the book’s launch, StoryWork International and YOUTOPIAN are announcing the offering of an introductory master class on Story Intelligence and the 7 Powers of Story starting in Summer 2021, led and facilitated by Richard Stone. This interactive course housed on YOUTOPIAN’s omnichannel platform, NYOUGENE, will give participants an opportunity to journey deeper into their own stories and build the foundation for harnessing the power of story in their personal and professional lives.

3 年I think I finally have “an answer”: our lives, stories our documents and artifacts will no longer exist in a siloed, liner-time context. We will be experiencing ourselves and our families and extended community in dynamic ways that are mult-dimensional and multi-faceted in terms of ways to engage with the same. We will find ourselves reframing what Legacy and achievement mean and what purposes they might fulfill. We will fail transparently We will succeed together We will transform our meanings and purposes to be altruistic and collaborative in even the most trivial of expressions of Human occupation. We will curate our behaviors and provide warnings to future generations. We will need to ensure diversity, equal access, and inclusivity in our platforms and we will need to get moneyed interests out of the way of Human progress. With greed so rampant and pervasive there will be challenges, but I am betting future Leadership will eventually get it right.

3 年I have been reflecting on the question as it was posed: "How will future authors of stories reframe our lives with with the emerging media of SocialXR?" The question presupposes that we *will evolve* and and SocialXR will be a thing; it also implies that "reframing" is a natural consequence of Historical accounts... all of which may be true or even likely and plausible. IF we look at how we currently reframe our ancestors in this context, it should be helpful in detecting the same sort of reframing in future generations, no? I think in terms of SocialXR it is too soon to say; I can see a future in which Social Media in any form is frowned upon. I can see a future in which the main takeaways from our present lessons will be forgotten or obfuscated as time & distance take hold. Maybe another question to consider is "How should we reframe our idea of the Future, and what lessons from our collective past should we include for future generations in SocialXR?" What I would like to see is a Human-centered approach void of prejudice and ripe w/Learning opportunities to bring our species closer to our true potential. Not holding my breath. This would be an egalitarian utopia that has eluded the species so far... dare to dream! ??
