Innovating at the Edge and Beyond With Microchip FPGAs

At Microchip, we’re proud of our FPGA business, which continues to drive secure, reliable, low-power and high-performance processing to the network edge - and even into space. Recent advancements, such as our new development kits and the acquisition of Neuronix AI Labs, signal our commitment to pushing the boundaries of FPGA technology.

In this newsletter, we’ll continue the conversation we started last month by delving deeper into news about our FPGAs at the intelligent edge and in space, providing insights and resources to empower your own FPGA journey.

NEURONIX AI LABS ACQUISITION

We were excited to announce our acquisition of Neuronix AI Labs, a move that will enable even lower-power and better-performing artificial intelligence-enabled edge solutions using our FPGAs. This strategic acquisition enhances the power efficiency of our FPGAs and SoCs deployed in intelligent edge systems, making system development easier for beginners. Now, designers can harness powerful parallel processing capabilities using industry-standard AI frameworks. Read the press release here.?

In summary, this acquisition will drive advancements in AI-enabled edge solutions by improving the power efficiency of our FPGAs and making system development more accessible for designers.

FOR A DEEPER DIVE INTO THE INTELLIGENT EDGE…

If you’re eager to explore more FPGA content, check out a recent episode from our Microchip Is… podcast all about FPGAs. In the episode, Diane Wilson-Tosetti, Senior Manager Business Development at Microchip, discusses the role of FPGAs in Intelligent Edge applications and the range of interesting applications the PolarFire? FPGA and PolarFire SoC families are enabling. Tune in to the episode on Apple, Spotify or Podbean to gain valuable insights.

FPGAs READY FOR LAUNCH ??

Shifting our focus to space, we recently announced our new radiation-tolerant PolarFire SoC FPGAs designed for space applications. This groundbreaking technology is developed on Microchip’s RT PolarFire FPGA, marking the first real-time Linux? capable, RISC-V based microprocessor subsystem on a flight-proven RT PolarFire FPGA fabric. Learn more here or in an insightful article by EE Times.

Our FPGAs also played a crucial role in the success of the Ingenuity helicopter mission on Mars. As NASA JPL shared in April, Ingenuity exceeded expectations, completing 72 flights across 1,000 “sols” after its landing with the Perseverance rover in February 2021. Learn more about our involvement in a story here from EE Journal.
