Innovating Early Years Support:
Parents Plus
Strengthening families and improving outcomes by training practitioners to deliver evidence-based parenting programmes
The New Core Delivery of the Parents Plus Early Years Programme
The Parents Plus Early Years Programme (PPEY) has always been an effective parenting support for professionals working with families and children across Community, Mental Health, Disability and Education but now, with its new Core delivery, the programme takes a significant step forward in making parenting support more accessible and adaptable to diverse needs.
Flexibility at Its Core
The Core delivery is an alternative to the traditional format of the PPEY. It's designed to be more flexible, allowing facilitators to tailor the programme to the unique circumstances of individual families over a longer period. This approach is especially beneficial for parents who may find the standard group sessions challenging, such as those with intellectual disabilities, mental health issues, non-English speakers, or parents living in unstable conditions.
Adaptable Materials for Diverse Needs
Instead of a comprehensive parent book used in the original format, the Core delivery utilizes a Parent Pack. This pack comprises loose page handouts for each of the fourteen topics, using fewer texts and more images to make key concepts more digestible. This approach not only caters to a wider range of learning styles but also allows parents to build their own portfolio of resources, tailored to their family’s specific needs.

Empowering Facilitators
To ensure the successful implementation of this new format, Parents Plus offers comprehensive training for facilitators. This includes a full five-module training for new facilitators and a specialized one-module training for those already versed in the PPEY. These sessions cover the nuances of the Core format and equip facilitators with the skills needed for solution-focused video feedback and other essential techniques.
A Step Towards Inclusive Parenting Support
The introduction of the Core delivery of the Parents Plus Early Years Programme is a significant step towards inclusive and adaptable parenting support. It acknowledges the varied challenges parents face and offers a more personalized, empathetic approach to helping them nurture their children’s development.
