Innovation is hard. We now live in an online economy which even makes it more complex. Agile organisations started to innovate online anywhere anytime. Have you started to innovate the way you innovate? Read below why you cannot stay behind ... and how your organisation can benefit now from a new way to innovate online.
Online Innovation Delivers Excellent Results
Online innovation processes with collaboration whiteboards like Miro or Mural work very well. This 'new best practice' has been proven the last two years, also by us. We moved the in-person proven FORTH innovation methodology completely online with Philip Morris International supporting them to ideate on new smoke-free technologies. Luca Rossi, their vice-president of product research and consumable development, states, 'the magic of the FORTH method online is that it lays out a structured roadmap, implementing 25 online workshops via Microsoft Teams and Miro with templates and tools with a very clear timeline that kept both the discipline and inspiration high.' He was not only very satisfied with the process itself but also with the results, stating 'besides delivering six disruptive new business cases with new-to-the-world technology applications, FORTH created a "from-idea-to-market" perspective among our R&D people, working together across departments in a completely new way.'
The project was rated 8.4 on a scale of 10 by all the participants. When facilitating FORTH in-person, we get evaluations with the same scores between 8 and 9 on a 10-point scale. Other FORTH facilitators applying the methodology online get the same results. So, after taking our offline innovation method online in 2020, we have innovated the way we innovate and we can conclude it works excellent!
Agile Organisations Innovate Anytime Anywhere ?
Innovating online gives us new insights into the way we can innovate in our organisations. And while practising it, we discovered in another LinkedIn poll the main benefits below.
Innovating online gives you the freedom to innovate with a team any time anywhere in a very efficient way as no one has to travel. These online benefits make innovation easier and the innovation process more efficient for agile organisations leading these next practices..?
Although online workshops have these advantages, the Achilles’ heel is the participants' low engagement, making it hard to share emotions and get into a 'group flow' with a high energy wave of excitement in your team. ?We are very glad that many new tools are emerging for virtual meetings, which are powered by augmented reality and/or virtual reality. In these virtual spaces designed as actual rooms, our lifelike avatar talks, moves, and interacts, mirroring in-person collaborative sessions. It looks very promising as it might increase our engagement and help us experience magical moments online together.?
Combining the best of both 'the online and offline world', leads to great hybrid innovation projects.
In our vision, combining the best of both 'the online and offline world', leads to great hybrid innovation projects.

2 年Old ways are good for a museum. Beware! I didn't say old 'insights', ancient, 'wisdom', or antique 'values', I said old 'ways'. That's about the systems, and processes we used back in the days. We still can learn a lot from the teachings of Buddha, Confucius, Jesus Christ, Mohammed, Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Mother Theresa, and so on. Those are ageless, and will never wear out. But over time systems, processes, and procedures won't fit the current needs. This is because everything changes, and nowadays faster than ever before.
