As women, we often question our superpowers. Unfortunately, we frequently experience the twinge of the adage “not good enough” and compare ourselves to others. This is the tragedy, and we must lean into all the lessons and knocks we’ve encountered in life and wrap those into our toolkit of wisdom. In environments where insecurity thrives, women must recognize their inner strength?—?often disguised as the inner critic.
Yes, this inner critic, though often perceived as a source of doubt and insecurity, holds valuable wisdom. It is not about “powering through” situations but rather about using the knowledge gained through ups and downs to get smarter about how you respond to circumstances. By embracing the voice of the inner critic, you can uncover the lessons and insights it offers, guiding you towards better decisions and emotional responses with confidence.
Give that little voice of the inner critic a name and talk through what is giving you pause. Many people say to address your inner critic but tackle her head-on so that you can truly learn what is holding you back. Don’t push her to the back of your mind because you will never move forward. It is critical to use her voice. It’s okay to be vulnerable, but this vulnerability provides you the framework to move through whatever fear you may face, whether it’s a project, a meeting, a difficult conversation, or a career move.
Embracing Vulnerability
As Brené Brown wisely states, “Vulnerability is not winning or losing; it’s having the courage to show up and be seen when we have no control over the outcome.” Harnessing our inner wisdom means embracing this vulnerability and using it.
Actionable Steps to Harness Inner Wisdom
Remember, you don’t have to tackle all these steps at once. Give yourself grace and take one step at a time. Even one strategy alone can lead to meaningful change and impact.
1. Journaling: Reflective Journaling: Set aside time each day or week to reflect on your experiences, thoughts, and feelings. Write about situations where your inner critic surfaced and how you responded. This can help you identify patterns and gain insights into your thought processes. Gratitude Journaling: Focus on writing down things you’re grateful for, especially your accomplishments and strengths. This can shift your mindset from self-doubt to self-appreciation.
2. Working with a Coach: Personalized Guidance: An executive and or/life coach can provide tailored advice and strategies to help you navigate challenges and harness your inner wisdom. Accountability: Regular sessions with a coach can keep you accountable for your goals and help you stay on track.
3. Vision Boarding: Visualizing Goals: Create a vision board with images and words representing your goals and aspirations. This can serve as a daily visual reminder of what you’re working towards and keep you motivated.
Positive Affirmations: Include affirmations that counteract your inner critic’s negative messages. For example, “I am capable and deserving of success. I can manifest what I want in life.”
4. Mindfulness and Meditation:
Mindfulness Practices: Engage in mindfulness exercises to become more aware of your thoughts and feelings. This can help you observe your inner critic without judgment and respond more thoughtfully. Meditation: Regular meditation can help calm your mind and create space for positive thoughts and self-compassion.
5. Seeking Support:
Support Groups: Join groups or forums where you can share experiences and gain support from other women facing similar challenges. Mentorship: Seek out mentors who can offer guidance, share their experiences, and provide encouragement and accountability.

Continuous Learning: Invest in professional development courses or workshops to build your skills and confidence. The more knowledge and expertise you gain, the more empowered you’ll feel in the workplace.
Networking: Build a strong network of professional connections who can offer support, advice, and opportunities.
7. Physical Activities:
Exercise: Engage in regular physical activities like yoga, running, or dancing, and pilates. Exercise can boost your mood, reduce stress, and enhance your overall well-being. Outdoor Activities: Spend time in nature to recharge and gain perspective. Sometimes a walk in the park can help clear your mind and spark new ideas.
