Inmarsat’s Americas Regional Conference 2019

Inmarsat’s Americas Regional Conference 2019 in San Diego was rather a refreshing one. Mr. Rupert Pearce (CEO of Inmarsat) started the event by addressing the new US$3.3 billion offer that was presented by the consortium that is headed by private equity firm Apax Partners. The group also includes Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board (OTPPB) and Warburg Pincus International. While the deal has not been officially finalized yet, Mr. Pearce mentioned that it is still early to start seeing any actual moves or changes at this stage and business will continue as normal for almost the remaining of 2019. So the good news for the distribution partners is that there are no immediate changes foreseen in the very near future. The conference was a series of great presentations that showed different solutions for the constantly changing and demanding challenges that clients face.

From the end-user perspective, there are exciting developments and many improvements that are geared towards IoT, advanced global safety services and very affordable mobile services. The investments in two six-generation (I-6) satellites are promising to deliver the first ever dual-payload kind of satellites that will enhance the speed of L-band services and will add further depth to the Ka-band services through speed and capacity. The new integration between Global Xpress (GX) and L-band will offer more IoT applications and dedicated bandwidth apps. Accordingly, the opportunity for solution customization will be possible when you combine both services together and set it up in a way that serves your business operations a lot more efficiently.

Inmarsat is gaining track in the VSAT market and the new developments coming up will add a new spice to the current competition.
