Over the past few decades, erratic lifestyles and consumption patterns have led to the widespread prevalence of several chronic conditions. One of these most prevalent chronic conditions is diabetes, which is a disease present in individuals who consume considerable amounts of sugary foods.
The rising prevalence of diabetes worldwide has led to adopt injection pens, which currently serve as the best treatment to keep diabetes at bay in individuals suffering from the same. In this blog post, we shed light on the basics of injection pens and the benefits of using them. Also, we cover the top providers of injection pens. Stick with us!
What Is Injection Pen?
An injection pen, also known as an insulin pen, is a needlepoint device similar in looks to a normal pen. Insulin is administered to the subcutaneous tissue of the skin using this medical instrument. Injection pens can also be given in specific dosage amounts to the diabetes patient.
Injection pens are bifurcated into two types - disposable and retractable. The major difference between the two is the fact that in the retractable pen, the insulin cartridge needs to be filled every time the insulin dose needs to be administered; however, with the disposable one, it is already filled with insulin and should be thrown away after use.
Why Injection Pens Are Gaining Increased Traction?
Easy to use
Injection pens are easy to use compared to needle instruments, which have not gained much traction due to the penetrative model of the needle and syringe. Injection pens also allow for ease in injecting the dose if the patient wants to administer the dose themselves.
Time efficient
Injection pens can be easily filled as in retractable injection pens, or can be used one time, as in the case of disposable injection pens. This saves time and effort when compared to the vial and syringe method, as filling the needle with the insulin dosage and injecting it into the patient should be done by a trained physician.
Additional features
Several features have become a part of the simple injection needles, such as memory features, which help the patient remember the timing of their dosage and even the ease in setting the pre-set doses so as to prevent refilling during the time of administration. These additional features to the once simple injection system have helped in making this device ubiquitous among diabetes patients.
