?"Briefly, Anglo-Saxonism is the belief that those of Anglo-Saxon origin, particularly the peoples of the British Isles and their descendants in the United States and the “White Dominions” (Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa) of the British Empire, contained virtues and qualities that made them naturally “superior” to other ethnic groups. Among the virtues highly prized by Anglo-Saxonists include courage, thrift, independence, and self-control, culminating into “self-government,” unique to these peoples. These qualities, therefore, explained the economic success of the United States and the British Empire and justified imperial expansion during the late nineteenth century. Anglo-Saxonism has undergone an evolution throughout its long history, and over the centuries, people in both Great Britain and the United States used Anglo-Saxonism to suit the needs of the time. In its original sense, Anglo-Saxonism refers to the founding myths that defined the English people during the ?early Middle Ages, as migrations of Germanic peoples settled what would become England after the collapse of Roman rule, which would be written down in documents, by chroniclers such as Geoffrey of Monmouth and Bede the Venerable. Such myths included the founding of the ancient 3 Britons by survivors of the Trojan War and the stories of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. These early myths created a sense of national identity for an island populated by Angles, Saxons, and Jutes. Puritans and other groups reinterpreted the Anglo-Saxon stories to denounce the deviation of Rome from the original scriptures, as well as the corrupt Stuart monarchy and Anglican hierarchy that was still heavily influenced by the Catholic Church. Because of the influence of the Calvinism espoused by English Puritans, the idea of the English-speaking peoples as the “Chosen People” became part of the narrative of Anglo-Saxonism, especially as they began to settle North America to create a “city on a hill” amidst the “heathen” native Americans. Anglo-Saxonism would be reinterpreted by the leaders of the United States."

The application of Charles Darwin’s theory of natural selection added a pseudoscientific component to Anglo-Saxonism, which had originally been a combination of literary and religious myths. Anglo-Saxonism served to promote Manifest Destiny, which decreed that the American descendants of the Anglo-Saxons were ordained to expand from the Atlantic to the Pacific, and that the Native Americans and Mexicans who stood in their way would either be subjugated or exterminated. Additionally, Anglo-Saxonism was also reinterpreted to justify southern slavery by reinterpreting the story of Noah’s children to sanction the bondage of African-Americans, both before and after the Civil War. HIS PREFERENCE WAS TO GO INTO THE VILLAGE AND SHOW HIS ANTISOCIAL PROCLIVITIES. CLAIMING OWNERSHIP OF WHATEVER HE CAN ACQUIRE THROUGH THE USE OF FORCE, INTIMIDATION OR MURDER.??

My parents made me to understand that “by the sweat of thy brow thou shall eat bread.” (in the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; (Genesis 3:19 ).

To me it meant that I have not only to depend upon my own abilities, but also to refrain from being a thief. “Do not steal or attempt to deprive others of the fruits of their labor; “Work honestly for a living’ and “do unto others—as you would have them do unto you.” (Luke 6:31).

These instructions seem to have been omitted from the parental messages of a youthful Anglo Saxon.? His historic record will show that he was a pillager. His preference was to go into the village and show his antisocial proclivities. Claiming ownership of whatever he can acquire through the use of force, intimidation or murder.?? These two examples describe (1) a villager: someone who wishes to live with a social compact, and (2) a pillager: someone who prefers to take by cunning.? Are we witnessing here the beginnings of socialism and capitalism? The irony will be unavoidable.

Learning about the personal details of leaders who exert power, or at least the illusions thereof, can tend to provide certain levels of fascination to the people who follow them. This may prove that the gap between reality and the unknown can oftentimes be vast. The law protects all members of our society and it makes for a fairer democracy. To this end, it is important to remain fixated upon these very important documents: The Magna Carta (Britain), The Rights of Man (France), and The Declaration of Independence and The Bill Of Rights (United States of America).

After 800 years, why- you may ask-does the granting of Magna Carta still remains a milestone of human history? Why does this feudal charter issued by this medieval king (John of England, 1215) still have such relevance to us today?

After the decline of Rome’s imperial power, the influx of the Eastern Germanic tribes (barbarians) took and ruled the lands once held by Rome (the Western Empire fell, AD 476, ushering the Dark Ages). ?These Barbarians were known as Angles, Saxons and Jutes, who hailed from Northern Germany and Denmark. In time, the Barbarians came of age with his religion, laws, and system of governance. Despite his appreciation of philosophy, art and other sophistry, and despite his writings on the rights of man, he has not lost his primal instinct for barbarity.

F. Roy Willis, Professor of History University of California wrote in the International World History Project, on The Germanic Tribes, and Huns, “There is a deep strain of violence which has permeated Western Civilization and it has existed from the birth of the West.?? Only the West has made war on such a grand scale...all over the world and with unmatched destructiveness.” He noted, though Western Civilization was born from war and has lived and thrived by war in order for it to survive it now must abandon total war

The history of the arrival of the Anglo-Saxon on the world stage provides us with an array of vexing conclusions.

These pagan conquerors were eventually converted to Christianity by St. Augustine’s mission from Rome at the end of the sixth century. Thus, the Catholic Church – of Rome – initiated the Romanization of the Jutes, Angles and Saxons whom we now call Anglo Saxons.

The Roman historian Tacitus (56 – 126 A.D.) wrote about the early German tribes who flowed into Europe during the first and second centuries A.D. The most significant of these early German tribes -to name a few - are the Chatti who were ancestors of the modern Hessians, the Treveri, Tungu, and Alammanni.? Chatti means “to breakdown by violence and to make afraid or terrify.”

These German ancestors were called Assyrian Chatti and had lived mostly in Asia Minor before they began migration to the area, where they remained in constant conflict with the Romans who called them “war men,” hence the name “Germani.”? However, Tacitus did acknowledge that no record existed (at that time) to show that these people ever used the word (Germani) to describe themselves.

James McCabe, the author of History of the World wrote that the Assyrians were a “fierce, treacherous race”, who took “delight in the dangers of the chase in war” He also noted that they were regarded with suspicion by their neighbors because of this characteristic and the fact that “they never kept faith when it was to their interest to break treaties.”

The historian Jerome who was born in A.D. 340 is said to have been quoting from Psalm 83:8 when he wrote of the Assyrian migration. He did so because it happened during his lifetime. This flood of Germanic tribes into central Europe, laid the path for the old Assyrian empire “to again rise for world domination.”
