INGENIOUS
INGENIOUS means characterized by cleverness, or cleverly inventive. It is not the opposite of genius (exceptional intellectual ability) and ingeniousness may be a characteristic of a genius.
I don’t think you need a high IQ to be INGENIOUS – you just have to be willing to think differently. It really comes down to a combination of CREATIVITY and risk-taking.
Risk-taking? What does that have to do with it? Well, have you wished you were more creative? If so what is holding you back? Is it a concern over how others will react? A concern over the risk for what will happen if you express yourself differently?
To be INGENIOUS you may just have to seem like a fool until others catch up. There must have been a point where suggesting a metal machine that requires burning a combustible liquid to move people around was rather foolish when everything was set up for horses.
